I have been working at Suncorp full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Learn new things every day
    Challenged to navigate and improve
    Aggressive to adopt new technologies
New strategy is right for the market
Authentic, committed, smart people. Some amazing leaders.

    Cons

Undergoing massive changes, can be exhausting.

    Advice to Management

To be nimble and embrace disruption means there's no excuse for time-wasting old-school bureaucracy. Do away with SOAPs that waste huge amounts of time and focus instead on swift decision making and action.

Also stop firing all the comms people... we need them!

    - lack of vision and direction
    - pockets of bullying

    Pros

Brilliant people to work with, backed by the biggest insurance company in Qld, great lending rates.

    Cons

Systems are archaic, 20 years or more behind industry standard - Champagne taste on a beer budget with regards to EVERY aspect of their business.

    Advice to Management

Hire professionals who have industry experience, put funds where you are seeking the most profit, commit to your journey and stop treating the frontline like a petri dish - engagement results are at 28% for a reason! Frontline people want clarity if nothing else.

    Pros

Company encourages flexible working. A lot of people have climbed the ranks and have good development opportunities, but equally there are a lot of people in roles with no prior experience

    Cons

I am a recent newbie to Suncorp. My experience has been that there are layers of management that add little value. Some areas are quite hierarchical in terms of who you can deal with. Restructures are done, seemingly in isolation of each other, and with inadequate communication to staff on the rationale and next steps. The fact there have been so many in the last two years would indicate they haven't hit the mark. Senior leadership seems reactionary. Pay is lower than market.

    Advice to Management

Think about the rationale for why you do things, and let the staff know. Inadequate communication is very disrespectful, plus makes it look like you don't know what you are doing

I worked at Suncorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great vision and Strategy towards becoming a digital organisation

    Cons

In last 2 years, a constant obsession with restructures with highly capable employees not INSPIRED. A lack of basic care culture that employees can only give their best when then have some certainty that their good work will we be recognised fairly for some security. Instead what I have observed is that there are STARS who if you know will progress you along. There also seems to be a very adversarial and up-man ship culture between functions. I will say avoid joining if you are high performer cos new joinees are not given a fair-go

    Advice to Management

Don just say “Inspire our people” is a priority when you do not have basic care to design their jobs so that they can matter and value. No structure is perfect, so focus on other drives instead of restructures where it’s nothing more than a power play between the decision makers and people whose future is what you are playing with. I was in an area that may have saved 1x through restructure and in last 18 months I saw that decision costing the business at least 10x in financial losses, new FTEs being approved 😞
