I worked at Symantec full-time
Pros
Depends on the manager, If you are lucky WFH is an option, Health Benefit was good some point but over all it is market standard.

Changes too often, CEO and Sr. VIP level organization and process as well.
Advice to Management
It is important to look after internal employee for career growth. but it was missing on employee development programs.

I worked at Symantec full-time (More than 3 years)
Pros
Really good culture, and hard working, team. Gives you a real sense of working for a worthwhile purpose. Some excellent Security experts. Some roles give a lot of scope to work from home as needed. No micro management in my area which was pleasing.
Cons
Not paying up to market expectations. Not if you will be made redundant - more about when. Too much Management change. If you are going to make people redundant look to redeploy .
Advice to Management
Stop looking just at the bottom $$. Remember if you are constantly cutting from Technology areas ie : Support, once that experience goes you have holes in your Supporting experience and Customer's will notice. If you make people redundant, do look to redeploy within.

I worked at Symantec full-time (More than 10 years)
Pros
The Health plan is quite good and grass roots team are good
Cons
Management is not listening, my personal exit after a long tenure was handled terribly, staff are overworked and asked to take stock instead of salary increases (which were not paid out in the redundancy package), massive redundancies across the board, constant high growth targets that are unobtainable with current staff levels.
Advice to Management
Listen to your staff, retain the loyal people, avoid the allure of outsourcing which is damaging your brand, stop chasing the quick bucks. Avoid turning Symantec into Bluecoat 2.0 which is apparent with the inside takeover of legacy BC personnel in senior positions.
I worked at Symantec (More than 3 years)

I worked at Symantec full-time
Pros
- Good work/life balance, but at tech support techies had to work one weekend days.
- Large brand with many Enterprise-grade products.
- Selling off some of the products that didn't find into the vision (Veritas, anyone?)
Cons
- Training is non-existent, the tech support team is expected to learn new products on the fly.
- You reach the glass ceiling in your current role, whatever that is and no chance for promotion to the next level.
- As the result many can't perform and create major issues for the customers or company (SSL certificate debacle - multiple times... )
- Clearly a sale-oriented company with no respect for technical people, quick turnaround in lower and mid-management team.
- Many product this company acquires gets destroyed (Vontu, PC Tools, Brightmail, Verisign, etc.) Veritas and Netbackup almost got there, too. Feels sorry for Blue Coat already.
- Laid off entire tech support teams and moved the jobs to India and China.
- All the positive reviews coming out lately are from Pune and other parts of India or sales/HR from HQ.
Advice to Management
Low and mid-level managers expect to be laid off regardless of your performance. You can't make a difference at this company.
Top level managers survive only if they meet shareholders' expectations.
