      Shameful exploitation of graduate labour

      Pros

      - Some talented people - Good place to start your career in technology (if you don't care about your mental health)

      Cons

      - No sick pay - Small number of annual leave days - Long working hours, 42.5 hour work week but likely to do way more - No onboarding - No team building - No training - Some horrible managers stifling progress and bullying people - The degree to which some graduates are neglected and mistreated is shocking - Enormous amounts of time wasted in pointless meetings since WFH - No flexible working hours after WFH - BS quarterly performance reviews based on how much the senior managers of your team like you - 30 minute unpaid lunch - No logical processes that actually make sense - Many highly incompetent people in management positions - Extreme micromanagement especially after COVID-19 WFH - No 1-to-1 meetings with manager - No defined career progression - Forced on-call responsibilities - Teammates feel pressured to compete with you rather than work with you

      Pros

      - Friendly workers and multicultural environment - Easy to get the job / no CV required

      Cons

      - Shifts last 12 hours with only two 30 minutes breaks - Time management impossible as there are no clocks and you cannot bring your phone; difficult to tell when your shift has ended or when you’re allowed to go on pause - Poor management, missing trolleys / storage boxes / scanning devices, in such cases you are requested to walk around and look busy - It is strictly forbidden to sit down during working hours, cameras are everywhere and managers threaten to dismiss you if you do so - Unrealistic performance targets (must pick 4 items per minute while your equipment is missing or your scanning device disconnects) - Metal detectors and body scan at the entrance, like in prisons; you aren’t allowed to bring any personal items not even your jewellery - Pharmacy is just an empty room with no equipment, not even paracetamol; it is used as a prayer room

      Pros

~ young, vibrant and hard working colleagues ~ office location

      Cons

~ poor line management , never had any objectives set and no performance review received ~ lack of understanding in how to drive business. Too much of a short term mentality and moving too quickly from projects ~ no training or development for employees whatsoever ~ unfair bonus payments, based on favouritism only so don’t expect one! ~ senior managers promoted after 1year service and no experience, merit or ability are ignored ~ everyone out for themselves. only seem to care they look good in front of the CEO ~ ridiculous working hours, no balance and absolutely no benefits. Basic salary and minimum holiday leave and pension.

      Pros

Like being at University still, everyone super young. Average age 26 (which is also a huge con) Good stepping stone Fast paced

      Cons

Poor work life balance Long working hours - frowned upon if you don’t do more than your contracted hours Heavily under resourced, so extremely stressful Workforce incompetent at roles through no fault of their own (lack of training) Poor management Car park a 45 min walk or 15 min bus ride away, that you have to pay for every month Bad culture, very negative

Great entrepreneurial spirit let down by appalling management

Jan 26, 2020 - Communications, PR and Marketing in Manchester, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to utilise your skillsets on a BAU basis. The Group rewards entrepreneurial spirits and ideas, meaning that if you want to implement an idea or oversee a strategy there is the room to do so. Great access to premium brands and prestigious buildings. The space to devise and deliver first-class strategic strategies and collaborations. Opportunities to utilise a high-quality creative team, to consult collaborative on the delivery of assets.

      Cons

Lack of equality and parity between teams and often within teams. Big pay discrepancies, including between managers and their direct reports (in some cases with inexperienced direct reports out-earning their managers). Very poor management from the top-end on a BAU basis, with a lack of responsiveness often exacerbating issues. Poor people management skills at the top-end, often peppered with what could be perceived to be negligent favouritism. Often unclear career development opportunities, particularly within the corporate team. High turnover and poor, or sometimes rushed, hiring decisions. Inappropriate dress code, exploited by the many younger members of staff. Too many inexperienced hires in senior roles across the business. Unnecessarily long working hours. No compassionate leave or sick-pay. Poor bonuses. Terrible office location with no spaces to go for lunch. Frustrating parking situation. No home-working or flexible working.
