I have been working at Telstra for more than 3 years

    Pros

Supportive environment if you have a good manager, Company is moving to scaled Agile. Most people are great to work with.

    Cons

It can be a complex environment to work in with constant changes going on. Capital spending has been cut dramatically so there is less project work than there used to be and funding is uncertain. Very limited career progression for IT permanent staff. Daily rates are below standard for contractors. Very difficult for contractors to get daily rate increases without leaving and coming back.

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great pay, flexible hours, many offices around Australia. Usually very chilled working conditions. Overtime is almost non-existent. The problems you face as a programmer can be at a national scale in some cases. Sometimes you get opportunity to work with quite large datasets (not google large but largeish).

    Cons

Technically the company is kind of boring to work for, technical evolution doesn't happen quickly or easily; nobody wants to risk changing the status quo too much. If you stay with the company too long, your skills /will/ stagnate. Change management is stuck in the 80s. Communication between teams is minimal. Even visibility of other teams is minimal. I guess because the company is so big, you don't really know what's happening in other teams. There's no visibility upstream or downstream - you can't see anyone else's code.

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Exciting products, great flexibility, future ways of working

    Cons

Complicated and siloed systems and processes, pockets of Band1 bullies who can only manage upwards and have no idea on how to be a people leader. Don’t bother going to HR or whistleblower they do nothing for you.

    Pros

Lots of resources and tools to do your job. Good people to work with and flexible work life balance
