I have been working at The Travel Corporation for more than a year

    Pros

    - A variety of different brands, so opportunity for growth / movement between brands. - Promoting travel is an exciting opportunity - you're giving people the chance to make lifetime memories etc, not selling financial services! - There's a friendly, social culture, although sometimes the different brands operate in more of a silo than would be beneficial. - There are some extremely talented and... inspirational people in various leadership positions across the business.

    Cons

Something that really never sat well with me after I started working at TTC was it's approach to supporting women in the workplace. For a multi-million dollar global company operating in 60 countries / 35 offices around the world, you would think that the company would be able to offer parental leave support to their staff that would be at least on par, or close to what is the industry norm in Australia.... Unfortunately however, that is not the case. TTC Aus offers not even one day of paid parental leave for it's permanent staff. Legally, they are not required to in Australia, but this lack of legal obligation is more around not causing financial strain to small businesses who could not afford to offer paid parental leave, not for a massive global company. When speaking with the majority of females who are working for similar sized business across Australia, it seems that the overwhelming majority receive at least some small amount of employee paid parental leave support to allow them to spend more time with their children with less financial strain. This lack of firm support doesn't sit well when the company then promotes itself as a 'family' focused business, and when the Aus CEO has been ironically awarded at recent Women in Travel industry awards as a ' Champion of Change'.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk as well as talk the talk. The current promotion of the business as a supportive workplace for women doesn't feel genuine if you don't follow through with actual policy and genuine support.

I worked at The Travel Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company had a great family culture to it and there were always opportunities to move to different positions within any of it's brands. A great place to work with a lot of long time employees because of this.

    Cons

Depending on your role the pay rate can be on the lower side compared to the market. This is the only downside to working here.

    Advice to Management

Doing a great job but you need to re-evaluate the rate of pay compared to the market average. This would really help you reduce turnover even more.

I have been working at The Travel Corporation full-time

    Pros

    Discounts rates are good.

    Cons

Management are supportive, as long as it benefits the company and not the individual. Staff shortages and very low pay for the amount work you do. No where to go in this company unless someone steps down from a role. Management get raises when the people who do the majority of the work get nothing.

    Advice to Management

Increase the wages, maybe it'll keep staff around.

I worked at The Travel Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Career progression, getting a step into the travel industry , good location/close to the markets and westfield. The people is what makes the job great.

    Cons

Always looking at ways of saving a dollar, way too many redundancies, important issues are over looked that effect the staff and managment are continuously doing way more than their role actually requires them to do with no bonuses or appreciation. The managment hierarchy is rediculous and they should start looking at staff engagment and paying the staff what they deserve. Flexibility for annual leave is not great... and the processes, steps and the amount of people that need to aprove something before a change occurrs is outrageous.

    Advice to Management

Dont over work your managers, reward them for their hard work. dont overlook issues that are being raised and start looking after all your staff even the ones at entry level that are not in your favourite department or position. The HR department needs a massive re vamp and needs to put procedures in place on communication and dealing with major company changes. If you are going to make staff redundant every few... months and re advertise the role with a different title in 4 months time, staff will not have faith in the ttc brand and will not have job security and the turnover will not improve. Salaries should start being.more competitive in the market the culture of titles and approachability needs to be looked at. TTC really need to change the culture of "because we have always done it that way" and start looking after their employees instead of treating them like everyone is replaceable.

I have been working at The Travel Corporation

    Pros

TTC have plenty of benefits for staff. All divisions of management are engaging and strongly believe in training development. One such course that I completed recently is the 7 Habits for Managers which I found useful for not only work but my personal time. With a wide variety of travel products under their belt, TTC have the opportunity to move to different roles, brands and even countries.

    Cons

As with most companies and common to the travel industry wages can always be a contentious issue. TTC have plenty of benefits and are often willing to negotiate depending on levels of experience and abilities.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. Management are great at engaging staff and have plenty of social activities to keep it interesting.
