I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Happy and inviting culture Consistent sense of teamwork Always life-balance events going on, like fun fundraisers (putt-putt, dunk tank, pet-a-puppy!) Respect for employees Good pay Upward and horizontal mobility. Once you're in, they want to keep you in. Even if you decide it's time to try something new, management will typically support you in finding a new interesting position internally.

    Cons

Difficult to get into Some areas can be strict with WFH policy Very PC culture, can sometimes get a little stiff Hartford parking Progression on projects can be slow since aligning all parties before moving forward is usually a must

I have been working at Travelers for less than a year

    Pros

Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic, when most of the companies cancelled their internships, Travelers went the extra-mile to honor their commitment to the interns and switched to a 100% virtual internship. All this was done within a a very short period of time, showing how flexible and adaptable the company is! This just motivates the employees to be more loyal and work even harder to achieve success together as a family. Excited to be a part of such a great company!

    Cons

Actuarial positions are only available in St. Paul and Hartford.

I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Benefits, PTO, work from home

    Cons

Very tough quality management, rough managers, the industry itself can be "interpreted loosely" as far as what is correct, performance reviews are difficult, home office in Hartford is always watching you, pulling files, etc and all of this on top of dealing with angry customers and fraudulent lawyers all day

I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pension OK Benefits I can't think of anything else but haven't met the minimum

    Cons

Super elitist culture, especially for entry-level talent. Interns are brought in and made to think that this internship program operates like most other large companies, one full-time spot for every intern, and if they meet/exceed expectations, they'll go back to school with a job offer. What travelers does instead is bring in 2-3 interns for every 1 full time spot. Every summer they have a "intern symposium", flying all senior-class interns from around the country into Hartford for 2 days endless marketing pitches about why they should come work for Travelers, again, painting the fake picture that there are spots for all of them... tying back to the elitism, they claim to only want the best talent and recruit them hard, but don't deliver on the claims they make about the employee experience. They use diversity as a prop. This summer there was a deaf intern working in one of the department and had him do an event where he was supposed to be giving some kind of talk, but the interpreter never showed up and everyone around him was just speaking on his behalf. Totally wanted to showboat the fact that they took this intern in only to basically humiliate him. Also the "leadership" name in all of their programs is SUPER misleading. VERY rarely do graduates of the programs make it above mid-level management, even 20-30 years down the line. This place is a technological joke. New(ish) CIO is gonna have a hell of a time turning this around.
