I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

EVERYTHING ties to the mission statement. Everything. Usaa has an amazing chemistry and awesome corporate culture that are truly irreplicable.

Benefits are excellent including a sizable annual bonus for all employees, free gym and onsite clinics, 1:1 401k matching up to 8%, education card to pay for education expenses, and the list goes on...

    Cons

It can be a challenge to “get off the phones” but at the same time qualified, dedicated employees will find their place within the organization. And hey it beats the alternative.

    Advice to Management

Let employees do what the do best every day-take care of the members. Continue to encourage development and help employees find their calling within USAA.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

8% match, flexible schedule, competitive pay and overall benefits, progressive time off policies.

    Cons

Too much middle management, lacks decisiveness.

    Advice to Management

Carefully cull through existing employees, especially in middle management, and bring in outsiders to get things moving.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

8% 401k match, more benefits than anyone could dream of

    Cons

Bc of all benefits their pay scale is light for most positions

    Advice to Management

Cut all the fluffy benefits and pay employees more.

  4. "Great atmosphere, bonuses, benefits. Lack of PTO flexibility. More corporate politics."

I worked at USAA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Training is extensive a bit mundane but the insurance training was invaluable
Including 401k match and 2 bonuses, total yearly pay wasn't too shabby
USAA brand power, you sound good when you say we work there. I got approved for everything I wanted.
You literally put education on a credit card and USAA covers up to 5250

    Cons

Lack of work at home opportunities and stuck with the same 930-6 schedule FOREVER
Good luck trying to book a week long vacation within 120 day window. Especially around the holidays
Without a degree, you're pretty much stuck as a CSR. Analyst and actuary positions are hard to get.

    Advice to Management

USAA is a model company who invests enormous amounts of time and energy into their employees. Continue to strive towards your employees personal development and give those who outperform others just a little more pay. No commission sucks when you can actually sell.

"Missing Joe Robles but still a great company in most areas"

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits aimed to support work-life balance. The Mission Statement still means something and those employees who help maintain the culture of Unity that Joe Robles fostered are what make the company great.

    Cons

Totally depends on your area to how managers/schedules impact work-life balance. Due to lots of tenured employees, promotions are hard to come by and sadly there is still an obvious glass ceiling for women. Diversity almost to a point that it negates itself by too much political correctness and over-compensating public relations within the company. Lots of leadership being brought in from competitors who just don't fit the USAA culture that was working before.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that we are not like other companies we compete against. Top leadership seems to be being saturated with great people who do not have the USAA Mission engrained in their work ethic -- that's a mistake that will hurt in the long run. Listen to the front line employees more. We aren't just employees, we are members.
