I worked at USAA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Excellent company, benefits and culture.
One of the best companies to work for.

    Cons

Slow technology, highly stressful, unreasonable expectations and workload per employee. Highly stressful and lack of growth opportunity, even for those with degrees. If it wasn't for being overworked until I finally burned out, I would have stayed for many years.

    Advice to Management

Set reasonable expectations and value the unique and hard-working talent your company has by not overloading and burning people out. Quality over quantity.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

EVERYTHING ties to the mission statement. Everything. Usaa has an amazing chemistry and awesome corporate culture that are truly irreplicable.

Benefits are excellent including a sizable annual bonus for all employees, free gym and onsite clinics, 1:1 401k matching up to 8%, education card to pay for education expenses, and the list goes on...

    Cons

It can be a challenge to “get off the phones” but at the same time qualified, dedicated employees will find their place within the organization. And hey it beats the alternative.

    Advice to Management

Let employees do what the do best every day-take care of the members. Continue to encourage development and help employees find their calling within USAA.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It all depends on your department + manager, for me USAA is a wonderful environment. You get out what you put in, lots of opportunity to grow and network. Lots of full time employee perks and incentives. Multiple cafeterias, food vendors, retail kiosks and on campus activities.

    Cons

Your normal tensions between departments, who decides what, how and when and budgets. But even then, that boils down to relationships, building a common ground and understanding.

    Advice to Management

The world doesn't and shouldn't fall on your shoulders alone, delegate and leverage the experiences of your team.

I worked at USAA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

USAA really cares about its members and employees. I was trained as an auto and property insurance agent and felt good helping military members and their families. USAA hires a lot of veterans. I was there four years and every year, we got an extra paycheck (extra 80 hours) for a Christmas bonus and a bonus in February. Usually that one was 16-18%. The benefits are great, including up to $10k a year for almost any degree (they even opened it up to degrees that don't apply to the company, like nursing). The management was generally very helpful and wanted us to learn and be independent. The executive leadership was approachable and usually friendly. My teammates were great; we held potlucks and other team events. Every holiday calls for decorations and birthdays were celebrated. It was really a fun work environment.

    Cons

It's a call center - you will be tied to your desk with a headset all day except for two twenty-minute breaks, a 35-minute lunch, and once a week one-hour team meetings. It's also difficult to move to other areas because your competition is other great candidates also trying to get off the phones.

    Pros

Great company to work at, very supportive management and leadership team. Very focused on helping you grow and develop in your career

    Cons

The office aesthetics is a bit drab and quite uninviting. It doesn't look modern, which is understandable as there a lot of legacy employees that have been there 30-10years and in some cases even more

    Advice to Management

Work on creating better office ambience through inviting aesthetics

    Cons

IT systems let employees down when they are interfacing with customers

    Advice to Management

Buy some top notch IT systems
