I have been working at USAA (More than 5 years)

Great people, benefits and bonuses. Very flexible and fair and honest

    Cons

I wish they would switch the Macintosh :-)

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The annual bonus, 401K match is great, benefits good, tuition reimbursement, great culture

    Cons

Over worked and underpaid. Also, they claim they want their employees to have work/life balance but it seems impossible. Plus, they really need to allow more employees to work at home (because their excuses arn't believable)

I worked at USAA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Commitment to the company's membership.

    Cons

Goal of having 25% of staff composed of former military or spouses of active duty ... means you may be overlooked or not qualify for certain positions (despite your performance and education).

    Advice to Management

There are many ways to support the military community without penalizing the rest of your workforce.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The facilities are amazing: gym, locker rooms with sauna and provided toiletries, they provide gym clothes, a cafeteria with 50% healthy options, a game room, a quiet room, onsite healthcare facility and onsite daycare. The buildings are super secure so you do feel safe. And during weather disasters, the company truly had your best interests in mind.
I love my manager and the fact that I feel like I can truly do what's best for the member.
They match 8% of retirement contributions, you get 2x salary in company provided life insurance, an extra paycheck in December (if board approves) and in February anywhere from 12-20% in bonus (depending on what board approves due to metrics of the company as a whole). They also offer education assistance.

    Cons

    Feeling tied to a phone/schedule.
USAA's financial advice side is like an after thought compared to their main bread and butter: P&C and Banking. The technology is slowly getting better but still leaves much to be desired compared to other firms. Our brokerage offering is definitely more for small time traders.

I'm definitely feeling burned out. There isn't a lot of room for growth here unless you're lucky enough to make management. Of which, I have no interest. Otherwise, you climb the ranks of III to SR for minimal pay raises but your goals increase.

    Advice to Management

Bring back LWOP. Work on getting better technology for employees as well as website function for members. Consider becoming more competitive in brokerage offering if you truly want to play with the big dogs. And figure out our metric goals BEFORE the next year...not halfway into the current year. Absolute biggest joke there.
