    Pros

The management team truly cares about you, and knows who you are. I loved working here, and my hard work was well rewarded.

    Cons

Many woman, like myself, chose to leave as promised promotions were given to those in the group, aka young men, who were starting families. They were good, but not stellar performances. The excuse was "we have something planned for you". This was said to many, but we woman saw the trend. You are rewarded if you have a spouse and kids. If you are single, you are not rewarded.

    Advice to Management

I left in 2010, and I'm told the company has become more diverse in its management. I"m sure the family focused culture hasn't changed though, and I think that is a great thing for everyone. Just don't penalize those that chose not to have a spouse and 2.1 kids.

    Pros

Excellent company history A lot of job autonomy Opportunities for learning and growth Company invests in it's employees

    Cons

Management can be very political A good ol boy network prevents innovation Not many employees in the 20 and 30 age group - it can be lonely Not many choices as far as location Pay is below industry standard

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the company's flaws, correct them, and USG is small enough and has low enough inertia to change. It can be a very enjoyable place to work, which will attract the best and brightest talent... as well as retain and energize those individuals. The pay is not quite as high as other companies, but with sufficient travel, and flexible schedules, USG could become one of the better companies for working professionals.

    Pros

    Clean and up to date

    Cons

However, the management was very poor in terms of delegating responsibility and task for when they would consistently leave without notice to either work in the Chicago location or to go on their vacation for the third time in a row.

    Advice to Management

Help new employees to get to know the other employees.
