I have been working at University of NSW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented people to work with, high performance environment.

    Cons

Standard academic cons. E.g., slow moving, administrative duties for research staff etc. University is becoming more corporate resulting in a lot of time wasting with 'fluffy' stuff and kills motivation.

I have been working at University of NSW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coffee options around campus. Nice to work at a campus and not a single building.

    Cons

You have academics running the place... they are first and foremost academics, not business minded tech savvy people.

I have been working at University of NSW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Work schedule is flexible depending on the role.
    - you get to work with Industry partners and learn a lot on the job.
    - Great pay - compared to other companies
    - great opportunities for professional development

    Cons

    - if you're in the management, you have to deal with a lot of interdepartmental politics - guess that's the case with any public institution.
    - you'll Probably end up doing Work outside your job profile. Can be fun at first, but gets annoying over time when you have to do others' jobs for them.
    - career progression is not well defined.
    - some of the Business processes are from stone Age and make absolutely no sense.

I have been working at University of NSW part-time

    Pros

Great pay and a lot of fun. Good admin support staff, payment system is smooth and easy. Students are typically very good.

    Cons

Having to deal with students who are not interested in learning can be frustrating. Also at times resources have been poorly written and questions have mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Employ more good undergraduates to review course material for courses they have completed (and excelled in). Just getting rid of all errors before they reach students would solve almost all problems.

I worked at University of NSW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Great work-life balance and flexibility
    * Genuine effort in making a difference and being a leader in social issues that you might care about in the workplace such as diversity, education, impact etc.
    * Great pay for the amount of work - I personally found work tasks and KPI's easy to accomplished
    * Great sense of fulfilment to be surrounded by young people and the aspirations of an educational institution

    Cons

    * After the 2015-2017 restructuring, there were (expected) changes in morale and increase in turnover. My personal experience is that things are way more bureacratic now, with many experienced and high performing people leaving, and newcomers with little/no university experience, sometimes no domain expertise for the role they have been hired for joining the university. This increased inefficiencies and made it very difficult to get things done

    - Maybe this is a 'pro' for most people, but I'd say most roles at this university is rather 'cushy' and not that great for personal and professional development. The wider community around you won't be working very hard so it's difficult to push any ambitious initiatives through. It might take you weeks or even months just to line up a meeting with someone. The short term comfort of working in this place may cost you in your professional skills development in the long run.

    Advice to Management

    Reducing bureaucracy
Better HR processes to hire the right people into roles
