    Pros

    Most of the academics and staff are a pleasure to work with: smart, considerate and helpful. Its two core missions – education and research – make it a place where you can feel good about working and achieving something for society and for the students.

    Cons

    Upper management is often focussed with fighting turf battles or showing off how brilliant they are against other senior players. Metrics are twisted to justify bad decisions, or ignored if the data runs counter to their own game plan. Success is ignored or not rewarded if it runs counter to strategy. There's zero tolerance for divergent opinion or internal criticism that challenges sacred cows, despite an outward show...

    Advice to Management

    Encourage a contest of ideas and open discussion to achieve goals, rather than penalising (often behind the scenes) those who raise issues or suggest alternatives. Success should be recognised and rewarded, rather than parsed for whether it fits into the prevailing dogma. Don't bet everything on one-size-fits-all strategy that obscures examples of success using other approaches.
