I worked at University of New England full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Time off policy was great and benefits were good. It is a beautiful campus, the students are great, and there were a handful of great staff members. Some very strong professors and academic departments.

    Cons

I experienced a toxic environment with apparent bullying and favoritism. Ideas were shot down until brought up and repeated weeks later by certain employees. Mid and upper lever management are classic examples of failing up, and only value those employees who never threaten to rock the boat in any way. There are ethical and policy concerns that are brushed under the rug, and it is clear that both your own management and HR are only there to protect the larger institution. There is a culture of fear, and I’m honestly not sure where that comes from as I can’t remember anyone getting fired in the years I had worked there. Diversity is not only lacking, but threatening to those in charge at UNE, and looking to alleviate that gets you labeled a problem. Faculty often treated staff like second class citizens, and there were many complaints from students about racism and sexism from a select few professors.
