I worked at Vanguard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people. A solid group work here and have the best for their clients in mind. Sadly, that will come at the expense of your sanity. Vanguard is good to have on your resume. I worked here for 3 years and even though I regularly look back and wince, it got me a job comfortably paying twice as much. Gym, expensive cafe (which closes at 2pm which is when your lunch will be), car services, health benefits, the whole...

    Cons

If this is your first job get ready because you will be worked to AT-COST death. Simply enough, look at the amount of people who took the time to write thousand word reviews on how poor it is. Don't close your ears when you hear that "white collar slavery" joke because you'll only have yourself to blame. The summary: you will be managed by a mediocre mid level supervisor who has been there 10 years and has "made it...

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people like numbers. And you know what, if that's really what you want to do fine, but hire a lot more numbers so they aren't quitting left and right because they are overworked.

I worked at Vanguard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent training program and benefits. This job teaches you great skills in Finance and a great way to get into the Financial Services industry.

    Cons

Very demanding days, certainly has a call center feel to the job but the company is so much more. There are some people that work in this role for extended periods of time, but I view this role as a launch pad for someone who is looking to get to another role within the company.

    Advice to Management

Create a more collaborative environment and have additional recognition programs to highlight top performers.

I worked at Vanguard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Industry name recognition and experience.

    Cons

The atmosphere and culture was very stifling. Ratings and reviews where subjective to managements feels toward you. A bad review could cripple any and all attempts at growing forward. Politics and networking from day one determined your future.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vanguard offers great benefits, the people are nice across the company, your job ends when you walk out the door.

    Cons

The pay is way too low for the industry and benefits are hung over you as a reason for this. They include you're social security as part of your "total pay". There is only as much opportunity for advancement as it would fit into their plan to shift to a sales model. That would be fairly typical anywhere else but they really sell you on the idea you could go anywhere and do anything. The fact that you have so little responsibility...

    Advice to Management

Stop the sales pitch that positions are fluid, it embitters employees who believe it. Raise individuals pay so it is more in line with industry averages.
