I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than a year

    Cons

Poor Compensation Nepotism/Favoritism Poor Middle Management Repetitive/Mechanical Job No desire for innovation

    Advice to Management

Vanguard maintains supremacy for 1 reason, CHEAP INVESTMENTS. All aspects of customer service is poor. The mindset is to cut costs in every way possible, which degraded employee moral. Those who move upward through the ranks are often times not qualified; they simply suck up to the right people. The compensation is poor, the end of year ‘merit increases are a joke,’ and the lack of coordination between departments... is appalling. For those considering Vanguard as a possible employer: They will try to sell you on the benefits (over hyped). If you are young, fast thinking, and have little to no debt DO NO CONSIDER working here. Advice to management: humans can deal with villains (we love to hate Wall Street, yet we envy the luxury). What we cannot deal with are hypocrites + those who maintain the ‘holier than thou’ attitude. Vanguard does not care about its clients or those they employ (just google that union works who have been picketing outside the gate for months). All vanguard cares about are selling cheap services and investments, which for some people is just fine but for most it doesn’t cut it in the long run. TERRIBLE experience, please think twice before accepting an offer here

I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Job security... Vanguard also is a strong promotor for self development and has several programs to support you in getting your MBA, CFP, and similar designations.

    Cons

Vanguard has an extreme regiment to following its own interpretation of regulations which drives the employees and clients crazy! Pay is on the low end and benefits are over rated.

    Advice to Management

The focus of the company is upgrading technology. Perhaps there should be more support for keeping quality employees.

I worked at Vanguard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Solid company, excellent job security, good retirement plan benefits. Good resume builder. Company offers decent perks like on campus gym membership.

    Cons

Vanguard is a giant cube farm at it's best. They are so high on themselves they can't see outside their own Vanguard bubble. Wages are pitifully below market averages. The company is riddled with middle management that for the most part add zero value to their departments but rather only care about pushing the Vanguard Kool Aid in the interest of self promotion. Age discrimination and reverse race discrimination is... painfully obvious. I have seen first hand very qualified white men later in the careers continue to get passed over for promotions in favor of young minorities or young females that possess half the talent and experience. They preach "equality" in the workplace but do not practice it. And no, I am not one of those that got passed over nor am I an older white man. In fact I got promoted twice in a relatively short period of time at vanguard. However, the overall experience was lousy. They really do not care about the employees but rather they are more concerned about their image as a corporate do gooder. I would never recommend working at this company other than entry level to gain some industry work experience.

    Advice to Management

Trim some of the management fat and pay your other employees better. Take more feedback from your crew who are on the front lines. Promote employees based on merit, not age, race or gender.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

High chance that you'll never be laid off and PTO.

    Cons

Focus on additional expenses benefits without the benefit of any additional salary.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on the additional benefits like adoption days off and focus on retaining the employees by having a competitive salary.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vanguard offers great benefits and support to crew. Strong 401k program, access to great medical, and lots of PTO

    Cons

A big reason Vanguard offers these benefits is because the pay rate is low. Also despite having lots of PTO, it is nearly impossible to get the days you would want to take off approved

    Advice to Management

Vaguard's structure and internal feeling breeds mediocrity. Vanguard's mission is to always put the client first, but recently it has been at the cost of putting its employees far from second, reward those employees that are exceptional.

I worked at Vanguard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to get good experience, get an MBA paid for, get licensed and have work life balance. Great people work there

    Cons

Pay is not quite equal to the industry average. They will commonly say that it is but it is not exactly true

    Advice to Management

Focus on creating opportunities for growth for new employees. This will boost retention and make the firm more valuable

I have been working at Vanguard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits including generous company 401k contributions, tuition reimbursement, lots of PTO. Overall very comfortable place to work. Lots of support when it comes to career development.

    Cons

Depending on the job, it can get monotonous. This is not unique to vanguard though. The nice thing is management is helpful and encouraging when it comes to career progression so there's opportunity to do what you want.

I have been working at Vanguard for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent place to work for as long as you don't mind being in a call center enviroment. Plenty of training and good systems to work on. Good enviroment to work in lots of great people.

    Cons

While I was working for the company structure of the company changed quite a bit. Became a place where they care for the employees then became just a number. Location lost opportunities as departments closed in Charlotte. No a lot of room for advancement. Once you reach a certain level after a few years of no growth. Get ready for rotation of managment every couple of years and changes every time it happens. Hope... you get a good team leader.Team leaders move alot as well. There were times when I did,t have a team leader for months. Also cut pay and bonuses while working for the company.
