Pros

They used to have unlimited PTO. The farmers, team leads, and supervisors were good people. I made a lot of friends and cared deeply for my coworkers. They did hire a manager with experience in food production.

Cons

Bad management. Management viewed the Columbia farmers as bad children for a long time. They were stuck on metrics comparing us to the Charleston farm, without including all of the food safety measures in place at the Columbia farm that Charleston did not have in place. Management could not take any criticism unless it was decorated in glitter and had a bow on top. If you had a solution it was only listened to if it cost no money. Nearly all of management is out of their element as it is an agricultural production plant. I was hired with the statement that work hours were 7am-3:30pm with the occasional long day. Longer days were far more frequent than days we got out on time. They aren’t the only company doing this. There are a lot of hydroponic farms. They may be the only one at this current scale, but in their rush to get big, little problems in construction have become a major hinderance. Farmers have to push and push hard. You are an agricultural laborer at this job. They skirt a fine line to keep you as an agricultural laborer, because agricultural laborers have fewer rights. The nature of the work is far more production related than agricultural. They lacked PPE to protect from cold packrooms. After Christmas, they laid off about 15 people working for the construction arm of AmplifiedAg. This included the handyman for our farm. They had everyone come to work and told them there. Things started breaking a lot after the handyman was let go. Very high turnover.

Pros

Your coworkers are the best you’ll meet. I loved all the people in my suite. You can move up if you want to pretty fast sometimes.

Cons

The company loves to say how much they care about their employees, they’ll say it so much they’ll make you believe it. But, when it comes to actually showing it they won’t and then they’ll say it’s for our benefit and not the companies benefit, which let me tell you is a lie. They expect more out of you than anyone could give they basically want you to say screw your family, screw your future and everything you believe in. They only look at you as a number and not a human being. Just a quick example, I wanted to go back to school I found a school with a reasonable schedule but vertical roots refused to make any accommodations and seeing that I’d only be able to work 10 hour shifts for them i would have to quit before they gave me the hours and that’s what I was actually told. I clock in early every morning to try to get a jumpstart on the day and if I ever have to get off early which is rarely but with working Monday thru Friday and working such long hours I needed the bank sometimes or the dmv or other places I otherwise can’t go to over the weekend they will treat you like utter crap and make you feel so bad for wanting and needing to do something for yourself and your life. Also no overtime, again they say no over time is for the employees benefit.

Pros

The best part is when you leave.

Cons

This company doesn't care about employees and/or customers just money! They say they want to supply people with "local" lettuce but are shipping in lettuce from out of state as far as California because they can't produce enough to stay afloat. Also, the lettuce is bug and spider infested yet that lettuce is still expected to be packaged and shipped to your local grocery store. FOOD FRAUD much? Such a toxic environment to be in and would never refer their lettuce to even my worst enemy.
