      Average Big Retail Bank

      Pros

Westpac is currently going through a number of large structural changes, which hopefully will be positive. The company does have a strong focus on employee rights, as there is heavy union involvement. Benefits and compensation are in line with the other big retail banks. Work-life balance is on par for Australia but much better compared to previous employment overseas with large broker-dealer fims.

      Cons

Lack of strong and inspirational senior executives (e.g. C-suite and GM layer). GM-2, GM-3 and GM-4 layers get absolutely hammered, whilst more mid and junior level employees tend to have great work-life balance and compensation. There is a lack of real cohesive strategy and direction between divisions. Which at more juniors levels is less concerning but poses major challenges and constraints in senior positions. Aggressive culture, very blame oriented instead of solution driven.
