I worked at Woodside Petroleum full-time

    Pros

Decent salary especially if based on site. Some intelligent and friendly people. New building in Perth has good facilities.

    Cons

50% people are overworked and 50% people have no clear role and just create/manage internal bureaucracy which doesn't add value. Usually the 50% people that don't add value receive better performance rankings - a system which discourages collaboration and encourages competing and beating their own drum. It also ensures that a portion of the workforce is dissatisfied with their job due to performance ranking. Producing assets focus on their annual budget, not lifecycle costs or sustainable decisions. Large maintenance backlogs which are increasing. No substantial projects have been successful in a long time. High cost of new building and IT department mean internal charge-out rates are high and constant squabble over everyone's time writing allocation.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Woodside Petroleum full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great reputation, employees have a great work ethic, perks like communal coffee machines for Perth office, Look after FIFO employees with great rosters

    Cons

Slow to progress and promote employees, core hours are meant to be 7.5 but more realistically 10 - 13 days in the office without pay for overtime...

I have been working at Woodside Petroleum

    Pros

Very young staff full of eager professionals Good work life balance in WA Good weather in Perth

    Cons

Politics are a challenge in small regional player with long term employees trying to get ahead in world of few opportunities. Senior managment (CEO, CFO, Prod VP, etc) are all contract employees and are incentivized to make money for themselves and not the long term interest of the company or employees

    I worked at Woodside Petroleum

    Pros

    (i) Prestigous Company - a real heavy weight on the Perth scene (ii) Nice amenities and building (iii) Very Professional IT facilities - Server Rooms etc - Real Industry Standard here (iv) Strong safety culture (v) People seem practical and down to earth - no real snobbiness or elitism evident

    Cons

Contractors don't enjoy any real career path No opportunities for training [ except safety training ] Extensive use of outsourcers for IT can limit your scope if you wish a long haul career
