      Under-qualified Battleground: Profit vs Health

Dec 22, 2019 - Certified Personal Trainer in Chicago, IL

      Pros

You don't need to provide personal training insurance. You will get handed clients, more if the sales staff and PT manager like you. Free gym membership.

      Cons

Competitive environment consisting of trainers that are largely unqualified. Can be cliquey. You're getting a very small cut of the profit from training sessions and packages.

Thank you for providing your feedback. Please understand that the majority of our trainers possess a nationally-recognized Fitness certification. Additionally, trainers attend in-house training to sharpen their skills. Regarding the "cut of profit" you mentioned, you have to actually consider what the profit margin is - not simply the gross receipts. The cost not only includes the trainer's time, but other staff and gym amenities as well. As such, the trainer gets the largest portion of the actual profit on the session.

      Pros

Free gym membership (that's about it)

      Cons

You will not be paid what they promise to pay you. They mysteriously cut hours (last paycheck didn't even include hours on it, and management has been known to cut hours from workers after they've worked to manage the budget) and take away commissions on the last day of the month so you cannot dispute your lack of compensation before the next check comes
