Q & A with Christopher Dancel, Senior Data Scientist Chris works as a Senior Data Scientist in the Data Production team here at Vortexa. Chris used to be a Climate Research Scientist but left early to pursue a career in industry. Since leaving academia Chris has built experience working in technology roles within corporate retail, healthcare, travel, and now the energy industry. Fun fact: Chris was an avid practitioner of Tae Kwon Do and competed in many student competitions a lifetime ago. Up until a few months ago, Chris was the Head Instructor of Tae Kwon Do at his old university club before stopping to pursue other passions. A day in the life of… Ioannis Papadimitriou, Senior Freight Analyst Ioannis is the Senior Freight Analyst at Vortexa. He studied Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde followed by an MSc in Shipping Trade and Finance at Bayes Business School. He is also a Board Member of the Shipping Professional Network London (SPNL). Prior to joining the company, Ioannis worked at Affinity Shipping as a Shipping Trade Analyst. Fun fact: Ioannis holds a motorboat licence, unfortunately, he has never had the opportunity to use it. Ioannis came close to piloting a VLCC at one point but the dimension requirements proved to be slightly larger than his motorboat licence would allow.

Q & A with Christian Borresen, Lead Full Stack Engineer Before I was a software engineer, I spent 5 years as an engineer in the shipping industry. In fact, I was working for one of the companies whose vessels we track, Teekay! When I transitioned into software engineering, I always wanted to find a place where I could use my experience (and fondness) for shipping together with building software. That place was Vortexa, and I’ve been here for 4 years now. Fun fact: I recently crossed the pacific in a 36-foot sailboat with two friends, sailing from Chile to French Polynesia. We went 37 days, and 4000 nm without seeing land.
