Q & A with Jack Bliss, Senior Full Stack Engineer My mum is a software developer and has spent many years in the industry working with databases as a freelancer. She always encouraged me when I showed an interest in software and helped get me into it from a young age. I’ve been writing code as a hobby since I was around 12 years old. I studied electronic engineering at university but came back to software after graduating. Fun fact: I’m descended from Robert Peel, the prime minister who axed Charles Babbages’ difference engine project. Q & A with Amelia Quek, Community Manager A B2B Marketer based in sunny Singapore, Amelia has 6 years of marketing experience in financial data organisations and joined Vortexa as Community Manager, marketing the community activities that Vortexa runs and joins. Prior to joining Vortexa, Amelia held a Summits marketing role in Refinitiv, LSEG, and ran pre-, during, and post-event marketing across Asia Pacific including in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Thailand. This cemented and grew her passion for running well-executed events. Fun fact: ‘An avid traveller and language buff, one of my ambitions is to be able to speak various languages so I can connect with more people from across the globe. Apart from speaking English, Mandarin and Hokkien (a Chinese dialect), I am also a certified German and Korean speaker (albeit still at the amateur level) and hope to advance in these languages. A day in the life of… Valerie Gunn, Customer Success Operations Manager Canadian born and raised in beautiful British Columbia, Vancouver with a background in Economics and Business. An avid traveller of the globe, from living and working in Australia, to now building a life here in the United Kingdom over the last 6 years. Valerie is a Customer Success Operations Manager in the Revenue Operations team based in the London office, helping to support and scale the Customer Success team. Prior to joining the company, Valerie worked at a Fintech SaaS company as a Customer Success Manager, before transitioning to a Business Operations Analyst role. Fun fact: ‘I started my own hot chocolate business called KoKoLux for 3 years, and my last event I was at was a Porsche event! If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a huge foodie!’
A day in the life of… Jake Weiss, Graduate Analyst Jake was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Mathematical Economics. Prior to joining Vortexa, Jake worked as researcher for The Concord Group which is a real estate consulting firm based out of Newport Beach, California. Fun fact: I love baking, my favourite thing that I have made is a pretzel bread pudding. Second favourite thing that I have made, pretzels.
Q & A with Rongbo Xu, Graduate Software Engineer Rongbo loves travelling, embracing diverse cultures, and trying new cuisines. She loves to explore different places across the world, as well as new streets and areas across London. Rogbo holds a master’s degree in Urban Studies and Spatial Data Science from UCL. Rongbo is a Graduate Software Engineer in the Data Production team based in Vortexa’s London office. Prior to joining the company, Rongbo worked as a research assistant at the University of Glasgow and contributed to an open-source project on GitHub called spopt. Fun fact: Rongbo is the friend you can always count on to find the way – she seldom gets lost and remembers the right routes. A day in the life of… Anna Zhminko, Marketing Intern Anna is a Marketing Intern based in Vortexa’s London office, supporting global growth campaigns and marketing activities. Prior to joining the company, Anna worked part-time as a journalist at an independent Ukrainian media while finishing a BSc in Communications and Media. Fun fact: Whilst working at Vortexa, Anna is also finishing a MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice!
A day in the life of… Angelle Bottley, Customer Success Manager Angelle works as a Customer Success Manager and is based in Vortexa’s Houston office. Prior to joining Vortexa, Angelle worked at ICIS for over five years, specialising in the olefin and polyolefin market. Fun fact: Angelle is training her dog, Marley for the next duck hunting season.
