Covington DC vs. Cooley DC for a lateral M&A associate?
1
There is a first year associate in my office who likes to over-order on summer lunches (extra entree, multiple personal sides, dessert for the road, etc.). People are definitely talking about it and the associate is developing a reputation for a lack of self-awareness. Worth pulling him aside and gently mentioning to him? Don’t think the associate is gonna figure it out on his own since his head is in the clouds and he doesn’t have many friends in the office.
Partner scheduled a call this morning and during the call referred to today as a "holiday" with air quotes 🙃
Why would a v5 firm take down a new lateral’s profile after a week? Website shows “lawyer no longer at the firm.”
Being continuously asked “why” you do certain things by seniors when the answer is obvious makes me unreasonably angry. Maybe if you just applied half a second of critical thinking, you’d understand. And no, this is not one of those “asking why to make sure I understand what I’m doing and why” — it’s just laziness. Happy Monday
Clients challenging fees after the fact has genuinely gone too far. It feels like lawyers are the only profession where clients can just "decide" what they want to pay. I would never go into a restaurant, order what I want, eat the entire meal, then ask for a discount. I don't challenge the rate my doctor charges (though maybe an insurance company does), etc. This is so silly and disrespectful to the profession.
Neither
As a former Cov M&A associate with spouse at Cooley, good thing about Cov is the hours are not as crazy as Cooley. However, DC office social culture is pretty awkward. Also, Cov you won’t get any basic paralegal support. If you are junior level, you will have to handle both paralegal and associate work.
Where are you now? Greener pastures?
