How do we go about doing small group work or pairwork?
With all of this anti bullying focus, why is it that the admins love being the biggest bullies kids have to deal with? For example, for whatever reason, the admin decided they didn't want the students to take too many sick days so they sent emails to all the parents saying their kids can't miss more than 2 days from March to the end of the year, we had a major flu outbreak btw. So, 3rd graders were having a dance party last week but none of the kids knew who would be allowed to participate...
I don't know about all of you but it seems to me that most kids just want to become professional athletes now or even just college athletes. It is hard teaching them some subjects as they don't see the point in learning them, since in their minds, they'll be rich soon from playing sports. I think sports are overall a net good but it really makes me question our priorities as a society when we pay athletes absurd amounts of money... rant over 😂
I saw a district introduce a program where they help students in teacher preparation programs get teaching jobs. I love that but I hope they realize the problem isn’t qualified teachers but retaining teachers. I think there’s more than enough people who’d love to teach but choose a different career or leave teaching due to the awful conditions. Do you agree that it is a There’s a teacher retention problem vs teacher shortage?
Nearly every time a student complains that my class is the only class they're failing, I check and see something like “77 absences”. (Often I also see several other classes they're also failing, but kids lying is too unsurprising to merit mention.) I should not seem like the bad guy for holding students to such lofty standards as, "If you miss and then fail to make up every assessment of the term, you don't get a C." Anyone agree with me?

Zoom breakout rooms
6 feet apart working on google docs or something else online that will instantly update as students work. They can still talk to each other!
We use Google Meet and they are supposed to come out with breakout rooms in October.
There is a Google Meet Breakout room extension already. It’s kit created by Google, but it has lots of great components. You do need to learn it before you try to use it. https://www.hudektech.com/projects/breakout
Microsoft Teams also has breakout rooms.
