I would sit them down and gingerly ask what their problem is. Once I've attentively listened, I'll give them numerous solutions to the delimma(s) they are facing. If they're dealing with something I have no idea about, I'll direct them to the proper resources .

I would introduce myself with a genuine smile and ask them to tell me what's bothering them. Once they're done, I'll give them solutions to their problem (s). If I have no knowledge on the child's delimma I'll direct them to the proper resources.
