I hate, hate, hate this question. While salary history can be helpful it only equates to similar rules within similar industries. I had no particular experience in title insurance and had no work/salary history in the San Francisco job market after relocating from Los Angeles. I froze and said that I was open, as long as there was the ability to grow from the starting point by more than a minimum yearly cost of wage increase. That seemed to work in this situation
