It depends on the kind of problem, if its an unknown hardware failure, its time to start the diagnosis process, with context in mind. If its a more vague issue, its time to start googling, and follow up on leads. I'm used to solving practical problems with no obvious answer, by providing my own improvised solutions, I'm not phased by them anymore.
