While books from this publishing group don't have wings, they do help readers travel great distances. The Perseus Books Group is a large independent publisher, made up of about a dozen separate imprints that are Perseus-owned, joint ventures, or owned by third parties. These include Avalon Travel (travel guides), PublicAffairs (non-fiction), Vanguard Press (fiction and non-fiction), and Westview Press (academic books). Perseus also distributes books from more than 300 smaller presses including Grove/Atlantic and ZAGAT Survey. Its Consortium unit provides marketing and financial services to small independent publishers. The Perseus Books Group was formed in 1996 and is owned by private equity fund Perseus LLC.
