Sharp's business is pointed at the electronics market. Best known for its consumer electronics, the company is also a leading maker of electronic components and computer hardware and peripherals. Its flagship components business makes LCDs (used in everything from airplane cockpits to PCs to pinball machines), flash memory, laser diodes, and optical sensors. Sharp also makes printers and cell phones; consumer audio and video products, such as Blu-ray disc players and LCD TVs; and a variety of appliances, such as air purifiers and steam ovens. The company is one of the world's largest manufacturers of photovoltaic solar cells.
