Horrible Job!

Pros

Other designers and colleagues were great and made the place tolerable.

Cons

While I worked here I hated every minute of it. There was no structure or organization skills from the owner or his bipolar assistant. Seemed like whatever we did was wrong, and weren't given any clear direction from the start. You have to write down every little thing and refer to it weeks later or search though thousands of irrelevant emails. You'll be constantly watched like a hawk on cameras. Don't expect to design anything creative as all you'll be needed for is to draw the owners crazy ideas. There is never a easy simple job, the owner likes to up the challenge rating on everything to make it unique thus causing everyone to stress out. Most designers are on salary pay, but expected to show up early and stay late hours, layout the projects, project manage all jobs, attend countless meetings, and answer the phones since theres no receptionist. This shop has the potential of creating cool things with their machines and equipement but the quality of work that comes out of it is just mediocre. Majority of jobs are done last minute or in a rush which usually ends up with mistakes. But yet clients still go back and use them time again. Go figure? The turnaround of employed designers here is like every 3 months. Nobody wants to stay and put up with all the negativity. Others just beware. There aren't any additional benefits, only certain colleagues are invited to special or after hour events, theres no healthcare, vision/dental, not even direct deposit.

Pros

The other designers I worked with were very nice and helpful. The shop staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. If you're a woman, be prepared to be objectified (by the owner) and otherwise brushed aside. It's actually been a while since my employment; but someone brought it up to me recently, and apparently, I'm still a but salty. I didn't think a review was worth my time; but maybe it is. The owner has trouble paying his bills because he's always doing "favors" for people. By "his bills", I mean "his employees". I was lucky to have auto deposit through an app on my phone, so I could take a photo of the physical check (there was no direct deposit at the time, even though it was 2019) as soon as I got it and deposit it that way. Many other employees were not so lucky, and would have checks bounce. He does a lot of work at Texas Live; but not real work. Little side jobs like wrapping game tables. Expect to be assigned these tasks, but don't expect measurements or to be able to go there yourself to be able to make sure the job is designed to proper specs. You'd think that a sign place would have more to do at a place with so many signs, but I think that's left to the real professionals. I was asked pretty regularly to fudge paperwork and dimensions, in order to slip things past city regulations. All signage work is done on Illustrator, instead of the proper drafting software, so the computers are bogged way down all the time. Files are kept on paper, and are a mess due to high turnover. The owner tries to pit employees against each other; but it's pretty transparent, so it rarely works. I'm embarrassed to ever have been associated with this business, and leave this place off my resume. Fun fact - When Tiger King first came out, I thought it was funny because Joe Exotic reminded me of the owner 3Di, and the toxic work environment. However, the owner of 3Di is actually in Tiger King 2, as one of the "Free Joe Exotic" people. You might remember that even the insurrectionists at the capital on January 6th (because he was there - it's on camera) wanted nothing to do with these guys. So this is probably a good place to work if you're the type of person who wants to associate with that type of person. I'm not sure how else to put it. If you want to wrap Ted Cruz's bus and a bus that says "FREE JOE EXOTIC" and also be berated the entire time while receiving no guidance, you're set.

Pros

The only pros about this place is that there are no direct punishments to your mishaps or mistakes.

Cons

The owner is the very definition of a used-car salesman. Using underhand tactics to nickel and dime his own employees. He'll start you off with an "On-time incentive" bonus where if you clock in 15 minutes before opening (8AM) you'll be rewarded with an extra % to your hourly rate; at least the way HE explains it. This is flat out, a manipulation tactic and LIE. Clocking in 15 minutes early will EARN you your agreed upon hourly rate, and a 10% deduction for the rest of the day if you're late. How does he do this? He makes sure you see him write your pay rate on your interview/application and asks you to sign it. Once you leave the room, he goes back and adds "with 'On-time Incentive'". That's all you need to know about who you've agreed to work for; someone who lies directly to your face with a big smile. But if that's not enough to dissuade anyone with self-respect from applying, the proof is in the camera footage. No really, there are cameras in every room, corner, and hallway making sure you are being watched. There is no privacy in this place. Restrooms? Barely. They are in the middle of the shop, where everything and everyone else is. He devotes his time to scrutinize and backhand his own workers. Ironically, the most productive days are the ones he's not in the shop. A huge deadline is approaching? He will stop production and conduct a mandatory meeting with all employees to discuss how we should be handling production. You know, what we were already doing. And in those meetings, he will always deviate to "water cooler talk", which mostly consists of pointless pat-on-the-back stories, sexist and in poor taste "jokes", and empty promises. He will willfully waste 20 minutes to an hour on a useless meeting, and then blame you for not finishing your job. He will ALWAYS find a way to throw the blame back on you. You ran out of material to finish a project? You should have told him sooner. You need material to get a project started? You should have looked at inventory first. You looked at inventory first and determined what material you needed to order? You should wait until money is deposited. The excuses go on and on and on. I witnessed him belittle, blatantly misrepresent, and accuse his own employees behind their backs. And it didn't stop once they left/quit (Including myself). There is no backbone to this owner. Projects & priorities are cloudy and indistinct from one another. Deadlines are vague yet always urgent. YOU are always to blame, and there is NOTHING you can do about it.
