Pros
The company is family owned and provides a relaxed, comfortable, and fun work environment. They have a true open door policy as well, and the owners will always listen to your suggestions about anything, from the furniture to their procedures, even as far as the design of their key products. If you have an idea about how something can be done better or more efficiently, the suggestions are always welcomed. Conversely, if you have a problem, they will honestly do their best to address it. Even in my first week after hire, I provided suggestions about things, and they were not only heard, but they were implemented. It is a rare quality in a company, but one of the best things about this company is that EVERY employee (hourly, salary, veteran or newbie) has the right to be heard and they make time to listen.
Everyone is ALWAYS willing to help you learn and expand your knowledge. The industry is very specialized, so it is not uncommon to still be learning random things here and there even after you have been employed here for a year. If you do not know something, even the President/CEO will happily spend his time to teach you things and make sure you understand. I have worked with the President/CEO directly almost every day since I was hired, and I have been treated with respect and as an equal since day one.
Your salary may start on the low end when you first get hired, but if you prove yourself to be an asset to the company and an effective employee during your 90 day probationary period, your skills will be recognized and your salary will be reflective of that moving forward.
You must be a motivated, self starter to work here. Where everyone is always willing to train you on things and help you learn, you must also reciprocate that training. You have to make an effort to learn the industry and your position because you will not have your hand held throughout the training process.
ALL of the company benefits are explained up front, in the interview. They will answer any questions you have regarding the benefits honestly. Though some of the benefits may not seem like the best, if there are extenuating circumstances, they are usually willing to work something out on a case by case basis.
Holidays are paid AFTER your probationary period is over (after the first 90 days), but you will not get vacation time until after your first year. Where this policy would make sense to most people, some people seem to think they are entitled to an exorbitant amount of benefits even when they have not successfully made it to their 90 day review yet.
I personally love working here. I am extremely happy with the company, the ideals it was founded on, everyone I work with daily, and the respect I get from the other employees, as well as the President/Owners. The experience I am gaining here will undoubtedly help me throughout my entire career.
Cons
I have not had any negative experiences with the company or any other employee. The gravel parking lot could use a little TLC though. :P
