Pros

- The company cares about your professional development - Interesting and relevant projects - The leaders create a cooperative and friendly environment to work - Both leaders and colleagues challenge you to improve your skills - The company is very flexible with remote work

Cons

- As in most consultancies, there will be peak times when you have a lot of things to do and work a lot. However, there will be times when the amount of work is reduced, and you have more time - Depending on your location, you might work with leaders/colleagues that are not in your area. This limits the interaction with the people you work with

Pros

What I appreciate most about working at Castalia is the constant opportunity for personal and professional growth. The company creates an enabling environment for self-improvement: 1. Analysts are tasked with interesting and challenging projects (as opposed to tedious dirty work) 2. Managers adopt a coaching approach. They assist in honing skills like writing, communication, project management, and sectorial knowledge. Managers check in with you weekly. During the check-ins, they ask what types of projects you want to work on and try their best to accommodate based on your interest. They also work with you to develop professional development goals. 3. The higher management is not only supportive but also empathetic. They recognize the personal challenges staff may face and are accommodating, offering time and opportunities to navigate these challenges. 4. Management practices are based on scientific methods. There is no micromanagement, toxic superior-subordinate relationship, exploitation, and vicious competition, hence a healthy workplace environment. Besides the points above, people here are all capable and smart. It is a collaborative environment where everyone respects and helps each other. Lastly, working at Castalia is particularly rewarding due to the exciting projects I get to work on, offering extensive exposure. People with an interest in International Development should definitely consider Castalia.

Cons

Not a lot of people work in the DC office and the office is quiet. In winter, sun sets at 5PM in DC. So if nobody comes to the office that day and you work till 6, the last hour of work will be you sitting in a quiet, empty, and vast office, with the sound-activated lights turning off from time to time. This could be a bit scary if you are scared of darkness. But that might just be my personal problem... :)
