Communication is an often overlooked criteria with most employers but with Cignition it has been fantastic, there are dedicated program managers that write back within the hour to answer any questions or issues you have which has been incredibly valuable. The pay has been better than I was offered at three other interviews for similar positions. Additionally, hard work and effort are recognized here. I was offered a raise based on good job performance. Feels great to have the company recognize and reward merit. Oh and we are paid for prep time (usually around 10 min)! The job itself is very streamlined. All materials are provided making prep very easy. The platform tutors use generates meeting links so nearly everything is automatic; just click in and teach. An added bonus that has been helpful is that if you can't make it to a session, you can add it to the pickup session list where another tutor can take it allowing for extremely flexible schedules. The flip side of this is that you can get extra hours from the pickups that other tutors want off.
Cons
It does take quite a bit of time to build up your schedule. The vast majority of schools will schedule their tutoring for the same two or three hours every day (between 11-1) and so even though there is a huge demand for more hours and plenty of schools requesting tutors, the scheduling means that each tutor can only take on about three classes a day during this peak time. There are other hours aside from this peak they are just rarer. The company is new and leverages tech. The system is constantly changing in an attempt to make things more integrated and easier. While this is mostly a good thing, I imagine it could make it difficult for the technologically impaired to keep up. Some of the students are awful. This is less an issue with Cignition as it is with the US education system in general but many schools are in utter chaos and disarray especially after the pandemic. Students can be astoundingly rude and dismissive and do not always respect online tutors. Of course they are not all like this but definitely expect at least some terrible students.
