Pros
Seems great to start with You're led to believe you can have a positive effect and put plans into motion Friendly on the surface Some good eggs who made work life easier The CEO is inspiring - and passionate
Cons
Unprofessional behavior. Witnessed senior management openly laugh at, and called out, a junior colleagues appearance. Later that day in a separate meeting I saw further senior members of staff sharing the same joke, loudly. I felt too junior to speak up but cried afterwards. It is not unusual to hear screaming and shouting from meeting rooms No HR process in place for escalating genuine concerns. All concerns are escalated to the same senior management who make judgements on who they consider 'nice' Not a friendly work culture and little respect between colleagues. Lots of infighting and malicious gossiping in teams. The culture is dependent on who is 'in favour' so all employees are trying to out-do each other on gossip, and will happily step on a friend to further their own ambition Little respect for the MD, openly complained about in most teams. Sometimes unfair, but contributes to a culture of infighting and childish behavior Very little career progression. Some team members are still 'Assistant' after many years. Promotions are superficial and there is no opportunity to learn with training available so essentially are you doing the same job (probably for the same pay) but with a new title The only people to learn from are senior management, many of whom have never worked in their roles before in successful businesses Staff feel micromanaged, with little freedom in their roles as Senior Management are known to undermine. This is a recurrent issue for the sales team Zero diversity, and uncomfortable comments made, have left some staff feeling marginalised ("you can tell she's Indian, look at all this food") Positive reviews on here are strangely all posted on the same day, following a request from Senior Management - and all call previous employees 'bitter' petty' and 'lazy' which is a good indication for the respect you'll get working here - and for the level of professional conduct 'Varied experience in a fast paced environment' reads as 'your job won't be as described' and rarely translates to opportunities outside the company. I was always happy to get stuck in on tasks but new employees (not interns or volunteers) asked to thoroughly clean the communal fridge and work in the warehouse unpacking huge amounts of stock (with a much longer commute unaccounted for) at short notice No employee benefits such as sick pay, pension or enhanced mat. pay. Until you've worked for the company for over 15months any sick day will go unpaid. Staff who have been with the company for years have been penalized when ill, despite working late into the evening and weekends to make up time. Communication is a real issue in the company. Inter-departmental comms are poor which means that valuable information isn't with the right person at the right time, and when that results in a poor launch / missed deadline it is very much on the head of the person who wasn't given the correct information. Blame culture is prevalent, and even when demonstrably incorrect. A mistake made by the MD which resulted in a team of people being vilified and left in tears, could have easily been avoided by a) entering the correct information b) acknowledging the mistake and c) moving forward with a solution as a team The extremely high turnover speaks for itself. I have gone on to work for really great brands, handling much larger accounts and treated with much more respect. Unfortunately, this company has the reputation it does due to the extremely high turnover of staff and other ex-employees I work with share the same opinion The company has the potential to be amazing, but cutting corners and resenting staff for taking lunch breaks / holiday / not working weekends and evenings for free does not breed a positive and productive culture The CEO is inspiring - and passionate which can mean being on the phone to a delivery company at 10pm on a Friday when luggage doesn't arrive, or can mean working long hours and putting a lot of effort into a project which is unappreciated due to a change of heart. This isn't a huge problem if it is appreciated, but it rarely is acknowledged and is expected regularly
