Pros

I had the opportunity to work with some of the most hard-working, talented, creative, and amazing people I have ever met. I hope desperately that they find new jobs.

Cons

I’m not someone who writes these things. I don’t write nasty reviews on Yelp (I don’t even have a Yelp account). So please believe me when I say that the scathing review you are about to read is not a desire to “trash the company,” but a civic duty to those looking for work. NICABM is an absolutely abysmal place to work. The company is “managed” by the president who pontificates upon her desire to help heal the world when her real focus is in padding her wallet. She does so by hiring “interns” who are expected to work 60-hour weeks, staying until 3am at times to get the work done and making minimum wage. I was hired to write blog posts about current research in the mental health field. The president referred to my writing as, “terrible,” “poorly written,” and “not good.” I was asked, “Why I would write something like this?” “How could she put this on her website?” Meanwhile, I’m a published writer whose work was nominated for the New York Musical Festival. My writing was always denigrated, ripped apart, and then weakened. The end result was then published on the website. On multiple occasions I left the president’s office in tears from the truly heinous claims she made about both me and my writing. My other duties included email writing, or should I say, “email copy and pasting.” The company makes a habit of reusing ALL of their content. They will use the same email subject lines, body, and PS as they did last year, last month, or even last Tuesday. They resell the same products making no changes and then the president gets angry when the products don’t sell as well. My time was often wasted as I was told to write multiple options for emails only for them to choose “the email we went with last time.” The company’s motto is “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” This works if their definition of “ain’t broke” is something reminiscent of that dreaded house from The Game of Life that a hurricane swept through and levelled. The management style is atrocious. In short, there is no management. It’s her way or the highway. After taking a look at one of the top performing ads of the year (that she did not approve to go out), she had a hissy fit in the middle of the office about how she never wants to see that ad again in her life. To be frank, if you are looking for a place to be creative, this is not for you. In the interviews they will say words like “new,” “trying to,” ‘’build up,” and “creative.” Please don’t be fooled by these lies. This is where creativity not only goes to die, this is where creativity goes to harbor a deep depression, get battered and broken, and commit harikari. Nevertheless, if you are a spineless twit who enjoys being maliciously tongue-whipped by the President, uselessly long hours (8:30am-6pm, often 7pm), and mindless work then NICABM might be “a good fit for you,” as one reviewer put it.
