Pros

Neighborly was great to work for because it was a medium sized fast-growing organization. It was a company without being corporate. We didn't just own franchises - we partnered with franchise owners to support them while they put their life savings on the line to live a dream. And those owners didn't just mow lawns or do plumbing. They gave homeowners peace of mind, security, and time back with their families. Salaries and PTO were lower than the market, but it was worth it because the culture was inspiring. Reciting the code of values before each meeting was a bit odd, but they were values worth committing to and when someone didn't, we had a standard to refer back. These created a culture that brought out our best and created loyalty beyond what I've experienced in any other organization.

Cons

Neighborly is going in a different direction. The Code of Values are out, not officially, but they disappeared after Enrichment Day. I left ERD feeling like we had a great strategic plan. The execution must be atrocious because the feeling in the office is ominous. We are hemorrhaging leaders. Many who move to higher positions in other companies. The newly created Chief Growth Officer role came and went faster than the COO position was eliminated. It feels like lofty goals were created without a full map from point A to B. The feeling in the office is depressing. I don't know a single associate in ANY department who has a manageable workload. We are given additional tasks without a title change or compensation. The remaining leaders are clearly struggling to find motivation. There may come a day that Neighborly is able to financially compensate associates enough to no longer need the altruistic tight-knit community that made coming to work feel personally important, but we are not there yet and many of our tenured associates reject that direction. I don't know what the future holds for Neighborly. This may be what is needed to provide the best return to KKR, but it's hard to see people who have spent 15+ years devoted to a mission lose their motivation. My hope is that these leaders, who are the heart and soul of the organization, foster Neighborly culture within their teams and take every opportunity to remind franchises that what their value goes far beyond shareholder revenue.

Pros

The pace is fast, but the teams are competent enough to keep up with it. You're moving quickly alongside smart people, not scrambling to keep things together. Leadership is excellent and clearly sets the tone for how the broader organization operates. The culture stands out. People are kind and engaged in a way that feels real, not performative. The brands in the portfolio are strong, which makes the work easy to get behind. Comp is competitive and the operational infrastructure is already there. For anyone who wants to move fast and actually get things done, it's a great environment.

Cons

As with any growing company, some systems are still being built out and aren't fully functional yet. There are many on the team who are relatively new, and the pace is fast, so there's an element of building the plane while flying it. However, this is an opportunity to have ownership and accountability for growth.
