Positive Initial Impressions

Pros

Though I haven't been at Filament for long, my initial impressions are that it is a diverse and playful organization run by quality people who take a humanistic approach to management and don't take themselves too seriously. The onboarding process was thorough, my co-workers are warm and amiable, and my manager takes an active interest in my growth and well-being.

Cons

Scope creep! And clients that sometimes expect too much and/or try to micromanage projects.

No Mean People Work Here

Pros

I haven't met any mean people that work here, which feels weird to have to say but I've never worked at a place without at least one mean person to have to deal with. Every project truly is a playful experience and improves someone's life. Getting more into medical therapy projects has been extremely rewarding. Because of the nature of our projects, everyone that works here is very passionate about helping people and is all very nice. Overtime work is actively discouraged by managers.

Cons

Client-based work can be a little stressful when you get clients who are unorganized or want to try and pitch into projects beyond their subject matter expertise. Because of fixed budget/timeline projects you don't always get to put as much polish on something as you wish you could.

My experience

Pros

From reading some of the past reviews, to now having worked here for over a year, I can say that the company has grown immensely, especially in how they conduct themselves. There is still improvements to be made, as with all growing companies, but Filament provides excellent pay, a competitive and incentivizing setting, and a sense of community. Management, especially, is working continuously to provide a work environment that is motivating, understanding, inclusive, and patient. Working at Filament allows you to exercise a variety of skills that you can use to mold yourself into a stronger candidate that deserves a higher pay rate. The people are funny, welcoming, professional, and hard-working. From my point of view, days consist of an ideal balance of laughter and work, and managerial support in times of struggle or stress is always prevalent. Paid time off and sick days are flexible, and the benefits offered have continuously improved. Of course, there are still flaws. But overall, I think the company has made a lot of improvements and is continuing to. It’s growing in size, profit, and function, and it’s inspiring to see it unfold.

Cons

Little things — sometimes communication could be clearer, sometimes they need change their policies less.
