No job security, outdated values, poor leadership
Pros
There are many hard-working, dedicated people work at Gingerbread. You will find excellent colleagues. There can good options for flexible working and paid holidays (although not in all cases - best to check what is offered). Gingerbread's work for single parents is invaluable and this can be very rewarding.
Cons
Poor Job Security: Sadly, there have been repeated budgeting disasters and financial mismanagement at Gingerbread, and the leadership's response has always been to lay off junior staff to save money. In 5 years I saw the organisation shrink from over 100 staff to just 30. As a result I'm afraid there is no job security at Gingerbread and you could lose your job at short notice (unless of course you are a member of senior management). Outdated Values: Gingerbread's leadership is alarmingly out of touch when it comes to matters of sexuality, race, and disability, in both the workplace and its work with single parents. When myself and other staff have raised concerns about this we have been ignored.
