Managers usually have worked in your role and have an understanding of the work. They generally care about employees and support them, and don't micromanage. Work is varied and you will often work on many different smaller projects which keeps things fresh. You get to work with a lot of cool technology.

Cons

Growing pains and layoffs, not immune from suffering from the current economic slowdown.
