Pros

My experience working at Lhasa has been very positive overall. My favourite thing is the work-life balance one can have thanks to the flexible working pattern and being able to work from home whenever suits me best. We get 34 days of holidays plus bank holidays. It is also posible to work overseas (for a period of time and with previous approval). Though my job might be time critical at times, in general, the activities are challenging enough without becoming too stressful, whilst also allowing me to continue learning and developing my technical skills. Working on scientific software brings interesting and exciting problems to solve. There is also good support to go to conferences and do training. Moreover, it is good to know that my job has a positive impact in the real world (e.g. reduce animal testing). We have a positive and inclusive working environment, I really enjoy coming to the office, we have great facilities - a fully equiped kitchen, healthy snacks, a gym! On top of this, people at Lhasa are one of the smartest and kindest people I have ever worked with. Last but not least, we also have frequent social activities, these include table tennis tournament, bake sales, yoga, meditation, zumba, summer parties, well-being awareness events, fitness challenges, amongst others!

Cons

Sometimes the decisions made by senior management can feel a bit abrupt in the way they are communicated.

Pros

I’ve worked at Lhasa Limited as a Senior Scientist for several years, and it’s genuinely one of the most rewarding roles I’ve had. The organisation is not-for-profit and mission-driven, which really shows in the culture and day-to-day work. The focus is always on enabling safer chemical decision-making and supporting the wider scientific community, rather than chasing short-term commercial wins. The science is strong and collaborative. You’re surrounded by knowledgeable, thoughtful people who care deeply about data quality, transparency, and applying the best available science. There’s a real respect for expertise, and your input is valued regardless of seniority. Cross-functional working is encouraged, particularly between scientists, software developers, and commercial teams, which makes the work both challenging and interesting. Lhasa is also a supportive place to grow your career. There are opportunities to develop technically, contribute to publications and conferences, and get involved in wider initiatives across the business. Leadership is approachable, and there’s a genuine emphasis on trust, flexibility, and work–life balance. Overall, Lhasa is a great fit if you want to do impactful science in a collaborative, values-led organisation where your work makes a real difference.

Cons

Because Lhasa is consensus-driven and scientifically rigorous, decision-making can sometimes feel slower than in more commercially driven organisations. The not-for-profit model means budgets and resources can be tighter than in large corporates, so prioritisation is important. If you’re used to highly structured career ladders, progression can feel less clearly defined and more self-directed.

Pros

Lhasa is a genuinely rewarding place to work. The culture is inclusive and social, and there’s a real sense that everyone has a place and a voice. The team is diverse, friendly, and united by a shared purpose to make a positive impact through science. Benefits are generous, from holiday allowance to wellbeing initiatives like a free healthy snack bar. The city-centre location is great (very close to the train station), and free parking is a big plus.

Cons

The work can be challenging, but the rewards, benefits, and opportunities make it worthwhile. If you’re ambitious, Lhasa will invest in you, they actively support training, help you build on your strengths, and encourage personal growth. I’ve also had opportunities to travel internationally, which has been a huge personal highlight. At times the workload can feel intense due to the company’s ambition, but support is there when you need it. Overall, the positives far outweigh this, and it’s a place where motivated people can thrive.
