Pros
The people are the number one reason why it's so amazing to work at Matter Made. Everyone is passionate and incredibly smart. I have never worked at a place with a vibe like the one at Matter Made. I have also never worked at a place with this level of diversity.
Work/life balance is more real here than at other companies I've worked for. There is plenty of work to do, and some weeks are a lot more stressful than others with client projects, but there is an emphasis on taking care of yourself, whether it's once the work day is over, once your team completed an very hard week, or even in the middle of the day if that's what you need. You often see people with their slack status as "taking a walk," "taking a mental break," "walking the dog," and I think that speaks to the trust leadership has in its employees to get their work done.
I only have visibility into my salary, but for a marketing operations manager, pay is competitive. I do not take advantage of healthcare benefits.
Other things that speak to the company's culture are the offsites, which they will finally be in person, ongoing company activities such as plant workshops, paint workshops, happy hours, and game happy hours. Since everyone is remote and we are still small, these activities are super important to keep that sense of community.
Cons
Leadership is taking action on this, but part of the company's growing pains is the overlap in certain sides of the business. People, including myself, have expressed concerned and leadership has been quick to listen and form a plan to fix this.
Due to the size of the company, when a person leaves we can't let the client down so other people within the team or other pods need to take on extra responsibilities until a replacement is hired. This creates a bandwidth issue that can lead to burnout.
Onboarding processes for new hires need to be better documented. This is not due to lack of effort, but due to the lack of bandwidth. I believe HR should support managers with this task.
