Pros

Nectar is one of the best PR agencies. Yes, the client roster is amazing but the Nectarines are even better – each person is incredibly smart, strategic and brings something different to the table that will help you learn and grow in your career. Nectar keeps teams lean so everyone has a hand in client deliverables – no task is too small for senior team members to take on. It is a "we're all in this together" vibe and folks take the time to give real-time feedback. Tracy and Rachel are incredible mentors and truly care about each Nectarine (both professionally and personally). They set aside time for 1:1s and always make themselves available (even when things get busy). They also encourage, provide and support Nectarines to step outside of their comfort zone to take on new projects, etc. The compensation and benefits are also a huge plus – great healthcare, unlimited PTO, wellness and professional development stipends, monthly get togethers, etc.

Cons

Like many agencies, the work can be fast-paced. Being in client services can be tough – the work ebbs and flows but the team makes the ebbs feel not as bad.

A great place to grow

Pros

Great training, kind coworkers, a real commitment to culture and improvement. Leadership genuinely cares about employees and their growth. There is a fine balance to strike when it comes to managing clients and caring for employees but the leadership is committed to supporting the folks at Nectar. Be Yourself - Nectar has a certain way of doing things and a commitment to a high standard for client work. That being said, the company will never balk at letting even the most junior employees express themselves and their interests. Want to work on a different client? They'll figure it out. Want to give a company-wide presentation on a particular interest? They'll give you a microphone.

Cons

All agencies can be tough and workload is often tied to the whims of challenging clients. Promotions can appear to be tied to account needs and staffing rather than merit. While this is typical of agency life, Nectar does implement a system to allow employees to track their progress effectively and set goals.

Pros

I unexpectedly joined Nectar in 2021 despite having very little interest in moving to my third agency in 10 years. I had been at my previous agency for a long time and thought that it didn’t get much better and that in-house was the next move. Boy was I wrong… The concerns and frustrations that I had at my old agency were virtually eliminated and all the benefits remained. Now don’t get me wrong, client service is what it is, and there’s always going to be annoyances, but by far and away my workday has transformed. I credit a few factors: - Quality Clients: The clients that Nectar chooses to work with are trailblazers in their industries. They are brands that media want to engage with, that we can tell a strong story about and that have savvy PR people at their helm. I can’t tell you how important it is for an agency to be discerning about the clients they work with. A bad account has a domino effect on employees. If one account is overly demanding/difficult it takes away time from other teams and strains workloads - even if the billing looks “right.” - Compensation: I’ll be honest, this is what convinced me. Employees at Nectar are compensated fairly. We are given annual market adjustments and from what I hear people are happy with bonuses. Not to mention perks like free healthcare, unlimited vacation, wellness benefits and professional benefits help to sweeten the package. - Real deal: Tracy and Rachel (the founders) are real with clients. They are so smart and strategic and provide excellent counsel, so when the time comes to be honest about team bandwidth, push back on a request, tell someone their expectations are absurd etc. - they are ready and willing to do that. Their mentality is NOT “the client is always right” or even “the client may be wrong, but we’re in a service business”. This is refreshing and enables us to do our jobs intelligently and with respect. I am so grateful that I decided to take a leap of faith and join Nectar in 2021. I’m not a big proponent of agency hopping, but I see this move as catapulting my career forward and providing me with the experience, insight and relationships to go wherever I want in the future - but for now, I’m staying put :).

Cons

A couple minor things: - There's room to grow when it comes to integrated comms and digital expertise, but everyone is aware and we're taking steps to get there. - There are some internal processes that were fine when the company was smaller, that should probably be updated but this is also being worked on.
