Pros

Prime Studio is a great environment for any designer to work and grow. I feel fortunate to design alongside CEO and Founder, Stuart Harvey Lee, who has an impressive history in mechanical engineering, industrial design, design strategy and business of design. As a relatively recent graduate, I felt I was afforded lots of opportunities at Prime that a larger company may not grant me. This small team means a designer is required to flex into a very multi-faceted role and be comfortable leading projects. Stuart is a phenomenal mentor, businessman and friend. I’m thankful for my time at Prime!

Cons

Due to the smaller studio scale, large group collaborative projects are not as common and less resources are at your immediate disposal.

Pros

+Prime is a small studio, so even as a junior member of the team, you get to take ownership over your work and have a lot of creative responsibility. +Down to earth team of people who are easy to get along with and fun to work with every day. +You get the opportunity to work on a lot of cool and interesting projects– Prime works with everyone from small startups to big corporate clients, so there’s always a good mix of projects in the office. +The studio keeps really reasonable work hours and encourages everyone to maintain a healthy work/life balance. +Stuart is good about aligning projects with everyone’s skills and interests. He tries to make sure that people in the studio are always learning new things and growing as designers. +Office is in a location that’s easy to commute to– lots of subway stops nearby.

Cons

-The workshop space is a little small, so sometimes it can be tough to make prototypes or models in the office.

Pros

Prime Studio is a company that believes in letting its designers be involved in every phase of the project, from initial client relations to final production which, for the right designer, can be extremely rewarding. As a designer at Prime, you have the benefit of getting to work on a huge variety of projects for large CPG companies as well as up-and-coming start-ups. While there is a strong focus on housewares, which has been the studio's bread and butter for a long time, the new trend in working with start-ups has brought a nice range of projects from small electronics to soft-goods. While the pace of work can be fast at times, it is balanced by the fact that the studio keeps very good hours, which is great for a work/life balance.

Cons

The studio has been slowly growing over the past few years, but the small size of the team means that you end up working with the same designers on most projects. That said, Stuart does a very good job of picking employees who not only have the desired design skills, but fit the studio's culture, which makes for a quicker and smoother adaptation period for new hires.
