RefugeeOne provides high quality workshop tutorials for volunteers who want to help newly arrived refugees learn English. Workshops include not only some basics of ESL instruction and plentiful resource material, but also important cultural background and helpful links for tutors to learn some basics of the refugees' native language- a gesture that not only indicates respect for the tutee's language, but also helps the tutor understand difficulties a tutee might have with English . A person from the organization accompanies new tutors on their first few visits with a new family and there is monthly communication between RefugeeOne and the tutor. Working for RefugeeOne opened a new world - maybe the best job I've ever had.
