Pros

I worked at Rios during a period of huge growth and was so impressed by the commitment to values from the senior leadership team. From health checks to project choices I felt like I was being considered as a person rather than a resource.

Cons

The salaries at Rios are lower than leading consulting firms but this is because they try hard to ensure you are not working more than 45 hours. I know that the sticker shock can be jarring and might lead people to more quickly "trade up" to a higher salary somewhere with with worse work/life.

Pros

One of the best reasons to work at Rios is (in addition to the benefits) the frequent opportunities to learn and to develop yourself. In a small company, there isn't the bureaucracy that exists in larger companies, which means a lot of freedom in how you do your work. My mantra is “just ask.” In a company defined by innovation and iteration, there are always new ways to look at a problem, and they are very open to process improvement. Rios is first and foremost a feedback culture, so you can expect to receive feedback from your peers, your teammates, your project leadership, and you can expect to provide upwards feedback. As a member of BST, we interact with everyone- from the consulting side to senior leadership. It's great to see the diversity of thought and we work well as a team. I appreciate the trust to be a professional, to step outside of my job assignment and support others. People have your back, they want to see you succeed, and supports are in place to make sure you have every chance to grow and meet your professional goals. There are regular in-house trainings to learn the core consulting skills, as well as series such as lunch and learns, building a dashboard, coffee chats with the Partners, group coaching, and an annual day of learning and development offsite. I love the variety of offerings and professional development funding that Rios provides- from workshops, classes, leadership development, professional organization dues, conferences, books, executive coaching, etc. All team members have a development coach who can guide them in their path to promotion. Everyone is great at sharing their knowledge and learning, so whether it's a book recommendation, a YouTube video, articles, workshops, or classes, people bring back what they learned and share at an All Hands or contribute knowledge to our knowledge repository. I love that we come together weekly to learn new things and hear about the impactful project work that our teams are doing. In addition to learning on the job, I really appreciate the flexibility that Rios Partners shows its team members, whether it's hybrid work, working around medical appointments, adjusting work hours when needed, or booking travel for offsite, they have been amazing.

Cons

I would love if the employees who make up our experience and culture committee received credit for their service- either with additional PTO, an outstanding rating, or a greater profit sharing % to reflect the time outside of project work they spend on planning events.
