Pros
While I don't have a background in sales, I was able to learn an incredible amount from my colleagues and our company president, and within three years time I'd earned the Employee of the Decade award. This included not only a hefty bonus, but tickets to an NFL game. The latter speaks to the company culture; we work hard, but also have fun days where we play games such as cornhole or puzzle games to unlock bonus cash. I began as a proofreader/editor before pivoting to marketing and as of last year was the top sales person in the company's history. The support from the company president is amazing and unmatched from any previous job I've held, my colleagues and I genuinely care about the work we do. I can honestly see myself retiring from here. As a solo mother with young children, staff is more than understanding if I need time off to care for a sick kiddo, so that flexibility is a total benefit. While I'm leading the sales department, we work closely with IT, which has led me to have an increased knowledge base on things I'd never have expected to learn in life. Going to work never feels like "going to work," because I am excited about what each day might bring.
Cons
We don't have company hoodies our names on that back. That'd be really cool and fun.
