Good Place to Work If You Care About Design

Pros
The studio has adapted away from the standard office setup pretty quickly during Covid and working from home on high quality projects is the best of both worlds. Studio provides exposure to great projects with established clients and has a knowledgeable and talented team.
Cons
This is a demanding place to work, but I would say that the expectations of the owners and management are in line with the quality of the projects. I have worked at bigger firms that are more corporate and arguably easier, but I wasn't working on designs that I was necessarily proud of (or excited about putting in my portfolio). Being challenged at Studio Mai has given me the opportunity to develop faster as a Designer and exposed me to projects and clients that are much higher profile than I was involved with working at other studios.

this is more of a COVID related review. being in design, I saw a lot of my friends and acquaintances get laid off during the first wave in march and in subsequent months. I'm relieved and honestly grateful that studio MAI has been able to work through the current pandemic. We've managed to switch entirely to remote working, obviously with some hiccups. But the work/life balance has never felt better. It's been a meaningful experience to work with less "corporate" clients and I hope management stays the course.
Cons
I do miss aspects of office life but can't really put that on management. I suppose everyone is just learning as they go right now..
