Pros
First off, I am very confused by the negative reviews I see on this page. I started working at U. Cells mid-year 2021, and did not take the time to read glassdoor before I accepted the job. It is sad to think that others may have been inlfuenced by the reviews I see here. My best guess is that all of the negative reviews on this page were posted by a single disgruntled employee.
The type of employee that is lazy, combative, and performs very poorly, and instead of trying to improve themselves, they try to shift the blame onto others. The kind of employee that seems to not work out no matter where they go, and litters glassdoor with negative reviews to protect their ego. Anyways, on to U. Cells -
I started at U. Cells mid-way through 2021 and it has been nothing but positive. The technology here (developing Universal Stem Cells for a wide variety of applications, such as cancer therapies, etc.) is very exciting and cutting edge. Base don my interactions thus far, I view the personnel here as being very smart and kind. There is actually an HR enforced culture of respect at U. Cells, for example, I haven't heard anyone so much as raise their voice in a meeting yet - which is unheard of. When feedback is given, it has always been presented in a constructive manner. The parent company (Astellas) also has amazing benefits. For example:
I started off with almost 2 months off per year between sick time, PTO, and Christmas - New Year shut down.
My 6 percent 401K contribution will get me a total of 17.5 percent contribution per year (after fully vesting).
The company will pay you to take 5 extra days off per year to volunteer, and encourages you to do so.
Very generous bonus plan by percent of salary, and an extra bonus that is based on annual performance, that vests over time, plus a special holiday bonus that all employees receive.
Although I have only been here 6 months, I have seen that U. Cells is very serious about development from within. They strongly support and encourage identifying personal growth objectives, and when I looked at the history of internal employees that perform well on Linkedin, I saw that many of them received promotions ~once per year. So if youre a hard worker there will be an opportunity for rapid advancement of your career,
All in all, I have worked in Biotech for ~13 years, and U. Cells is by far the best experience I have had.
Cons
U. Cells is a pre-clinical company, and therefore, still needs to solidify their SOP's etc. They have a good start and are actively working on this, but there is definitely room for improvement in this area.
The technology here is advanced and may be difficult to learn (a lot of it is still over my head). This company is best fit for eager people that want to learn and contribute and have meaningful careers. If you're a lazy employee that wants to skate by doing the bare minimum, you may struggle (and may post a scathing glassdoor review when you don't do well working here; of course its U. Cells fault that you're lazy and not your own).
