      Pros

Unlimited PTO policy gives you real flexibility for work-life balance. The hybrid model (3 days onsite) strikes a reasonable balance, and having the option to work from multiple office locations is a nice perk if you travel or relocate. My team was mostly co-located, which made collaboration straightforward. The technology stack is modern and well-maintained—enjoyable to work with as an engineer.

      Cons

Upper management in my division consistently made poor decisions and operated with little transparency. I witnessed project managers blatantly lie, and when caught, they doubled down rather than course-correct. Promotions felt like a moving target—satisfy one goal and a new one appears out of nowhere. The company launched an AI initiative by hiring two external leaders learning AI on the job, despite having plenty of capable internal talent. Meanwhile, raises and stock options for existing employees remain underwhelming. Perhaps most telling: anonymous upward reviews repeatedly showed management receiving subpar ratings year after year. My manager received the worst scores I've ever seen—nothing changed. A VP once called a meeting after a bad review to ask us how to improve his rating. The lack of accountability is staggering.

      Pros

      - You can bring your dog to work - Co-workers are great - Constant company events and great office spaces

      Cons

      - Low salary's - Constant layoffs - The interview process is extremely overkill, and there is a lack of care from both recruiters and hiring managers

      Cons

High school like atmosphere (3 week zoom group training where you role play and spin the wheel to get called on and answer questions) Low pay - your experience/education/location does not matter. Everyone starts at $15.50 and it will take you 4 years to max out at $19/hr in a customer service role. They want your calls to be at least 8 minutes each and you're forced to get the customer to talk about their pets/weather/life and drag out the call. It's odd that you're paid based on tenure but strictly held to AI based metrics. They will tell you in your interview (that's two questions and 10 minutes long) anything you want to hear just to get you to sign your employment paperwork. They are desperate. I wish I saw the red flags in the interview process before I wasted my time here.

Remains the best place to Work

      Senior director
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Chewy's leadership is extremely employee-centric. The decision-making framework around everything from best hiring practices, to compensation, to rolling out proper rewards and recognition within talent management is all excellent. We aren't perfect - but we are still only a 13 year old business despite being a $14 billion company. In all my years at Chewy, I have yet to see a decision get made, or a process roll that I didn't feel was generally in the best interest of team members and the long term success of the company. We continue to grow, and at a rapid pace, vs many companies of this size, which continues to provide opportunities on career growth in various sectors of the business.

      Cons

It's tougher to get promoted at more senior levels than it used to be. Given that Chewy is continuing to grow quickly while raising its quality and hiring bar at the same time, it can definitely be fatiguing trying to continue to advance your career if you don't have high grit. It's essentially going through a bit of 'workload inflation" where the scope you are expected to take on within your level or job class is increasing. It's definitely a good thing long term - in other words, 5 years from now, we won't suffer from the leadership bloat that affects many business. However, while living through it, it can be tough to get promoted, or get members of your team promoted, even if you or they have greatly increased scope over several years, given that that simply has become the new expectation and standard. It's not a con for the business, and new team members coming in might not even notice, but it's felt internally. The good news buried inside of this con is that you will get an opportunity to take on more scope that you otherwise might have, and it's a good forcing function to growing your remit, learning more about the business, and getting increased exposure.

Pretty good on the whole, some recent turmoil but still recommend

      Associate director, technical product management
      Current employee

      Business outlook

      Pros

Work-Life Balance: One of the standout features of working at Chewy is the emphasis placed on maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I've found that the company respects its employees' time outside of work hours, minimizing the need for after-hours commitments. Exceptional Team Dynamics: The camaraderie among colleagues at Chewy is good. From day one, I've been surrounded by talented individuals who excel in their roles and collaborate well as a team. Engaging Work: At Chewy, the work is intellectually stimulating. The company's unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction drives meaningful projects and initiatives. Customer Obsession: Chewy's commitment to customer obsession is more than just a slogan—it's ingrained in every aspect of the company culture. This customer-centric approach not only guides our daily tasks but also inspires innovation and continuous improvement. Knowing that our work directly impacts the lives of pet owners and their companions is rewarding.

      Cons

Organizational Instability: Recent changes within Chewy have brought about a sense of uncertainty among employees. The company has experienced layoffs and hiring freezes, which have led to increased workloads and a strained workforce. Furthermore, the practice of placing team members on Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and down-leveling during calibrations has impacted morale. Limited Career Growth Opportunities: Despite the presence of talented individuals within the organization, Chewy has shown an unwillingness to promote deserving team members. This lack of upward mobility has left many employees feeling undervalued and overlooked. Decline in Total Compensation: The decline in Chewy's stock price in recent years has directly impacted total compensation for employees. There is a noticeable decrease in overall compensation packages, which has not been made up for in other areas. Lack of Leadership Focus: Despite promises of prioritizing certain projects outlined in memos from top executives, there has been a disconnect between intent and execution.

Great Team Culture and Meaningful Work Supporting Pet Parents

      Licensed customer care representative
      Current employee
      Dallas-Fort Worth
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

I am very happy in my role and grateful for the growth I have experienced over the last four years. Selling pet insurance has helped me become more confident and skilled in sales, communication, and customer support. I truly enjoy helping clients understand their options and feel supported when making decisions for their pets. I also value being part of a team where I can support my teammates and take on tasks that contribute to the overall success of the department. I appreciate the opportunities I have had to grow, improve, and make a positive impact in my role.

      Cons

I would appreciate more alignment between daily responsibilities and the core expectations of the role. Some of the additional tasks assigned do not directly connect to pet insurance or sales. These tasks have impacted my overall adherence and metrics. I understand the importance of supporting business needs, but I believe it would be beneficial to reevaluate this process so that agents can remain focused on the responsibilities that best support their role and performance expectations.

Beware if you don't have a BA or MBA

      Accounts payable specialist
      Former employee
      Plantation, FL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Flexibility, work-life balance, bring your pet to work, fun activities, free food and snacks, free swag, and nice corporate headquarters.

      Cons

Low opportunities for growth in the Accounts Payable/Accounting & Finance if you do not hold a BA or MBA. You need a BA in Accounting or MBA to grow in AP or accounting in general. If you do not have a degree you cannot be accepted to work in Accounting at all and you need credits towards CPA or hold a CPA since this is a public company. Do not even try to grow within the AP department. If you want a 9am-5pm easy job, not looking for growth, just go in and out after 40 hours, and only process invoices, then go for it. It is difficult to learn new tasks as everyone has their own particular task, no cross training or ability to back someone up if out, invoice processing is automated so rarely hands on if you are not a Senior AP specialist, lead or manager. Priority is given to those with degrees and that suck up to management. Also, beware of two team members (one lead and other senior ap specialist) in non-inventory, they are condescending, arrogant, not team players (all about them), and very unprofessional. This side of AP has had high turn over and it's not difficult to point out the obvious problems. If you want to work at Chewy, just go in knowing without a degree you will not get anywhere and an associate's degree does not benefit you. Promotions are nearly impossible unless you have been in the same position 3-5 years or more. Stay away or apply to work at another department. The company as a whole is great with great benefits.
