What is the hiring process like at D.R. Horton?

      D.R. Horton reviews

Lack of clear expectations and inconsistent management

      Administrative
      Former employee
      Draper, UT
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Large, established company with name recognition. Exposure to the homebuilding industry and opportunity to work with experienced teams.

      Cons

Significant lack of clear expectations from the outset. The role was presented as a salaried role, flexible schedule (including work from home), during the hiring process and then upon accepting employment I was notified that the job was hourly with strict in the office presence required. Management was largely absent, especially during the first few months of employment. There was little to no onboarding support, limited communication, and minimal direct supervision. Expectations were not clearly defined, and guidance was often inconsistent or provided after the fact. Policies and boundaries were not clearly explained or documented, which created confusion around what was and was not permitted. Feedback was not provided in a timely or constructive manner, making it difficult to course-correct or align with leadership expectations. Overall, the environment lacked structure, clarity, and consistent leadership presence.

      Great Company until Toxic Management

      New home sales counselor
      Former employee
      Houston, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great peple, fun, trips, highest paid role in the business

      Cons

Non stop pressure, like a hamster wheel. If you want to make that kind of money, you better gett used to it. When they hired the new sales manager in our division she was in way over her head. They split the division, gave her more authority because her best friedn was the President, and all but 2 of her sales staff left within 6 months (like 15 pepole). That's almost impossible to get that many 30-40 somethings to walk away from 400-600 thousand dollar jobs, but she was that bad.
