What is the salary like at Explore Learning?

Good part time job, friendly atmosphere, very good for personal development, regular hours

Very little room for pay progression, different types of tutors do different work but all get payed the same, lower pay in general than other tutoring companies offer, I got lucky with getting the amount of hours I wanted, but I know they have a tendency to employ more tutors and give them each less hours a week

There is a lot of progression and ways to get promoted or earn more money. It is very flexible and the other tutors can be very nice. Your managers are kind and understanding. You work with kids and build a nice relationship with them which is rewarding. You are paid just above minimum wage for your age and earn holiday pay and extra for your total hours of work.

Sometimes you can be taken advantage of and given last minute calls to cover shifts. They keep hiring people that are not flexible. You don't get paid proportional to the amount of kids you teach an hour (six kids an hour, if you earn 9 pounds thats less than 2 pounds a kid, if you earn 6 thats even less). Management blame you for numbers and they love complaining about not having enough kids/members like it is your problem.

Kids can be nice to work with. Easy to get hired. Tutoring is done through online platform meaning that you don't have to create your own lesson plans. Company provides training.

Work is not as flexible as it seems. As a tutor you have to give four weeks notice before changing your availibility or going on holiday whilst you may be given a new member with one day's notice. I was also schedulued to work more hours than my contract. Poor communication within company. When giving cover you are often given very little information about a child, for example you often will not know how old they are until the session. Very poor pay, especially in relation to the amount of money parents are paying for the sessions. Rates for 11+ session and regular sessions are the same despite delivering 11+ sessions requiring more preparation. The platforms used for submitting timesheets and availability are difficult and often frustrating to use.

- easy job to balance as a student - can ask for cover if you can't make it to your shift - kids were lovely

- low wages and no opportunity for pay rise - managers had clear favourite tutors - managers often talked bad about parents, students or tutors - minimal training for tutoring SEN students - weird hours in the middle of the day - always understaffed

Literally nothing except for the fact you’ll be able to put Manager on your CV

Explore Learning is a terrible company to work for. There is; - zero work life balance - zero diversity in head office - zero financial recognition for hitting targets and goals. -zero care for staff well being and mental health -racism and discrimination towards staff from other members of staff goes unpunished - the pay is low considering how much is expected of managers

Good pay for students and very flexible working hours! You are able to tutor online through their specialised system or in a local centre. It’s super easy to pick up extra hours over the holidays. Management are lovely and couldn’t ask for a better job for the last 4 years!

It’s a job you never want to leave!
