Pros
Working here can be exciting due to the dynamic nature of the work, but the experience is often overshadowed by a lack of organization and clear direction. While the potential for growth is frequently mentioned, there is little follow-through on promises of advancement or bonus structures, which are discussed often but never seem to materialize. Management tends to move the goalposts just as new records are achieved, creating a challenging environment where success is difficult to measure. Emotional intelligence is an area that could use significant improvement, as the feedback and communication from leadership often leave employees feeling that their efforts are never quite enough. Additionally, there are instances where managers take credit for the hard work of their teams, and they seem to take advantage where they can, making it a constant battle to ensure fairness. The work-life balance can also be an issue, with management scheduling long 10-hour shoots and offering only an hour off the next day as compensation. Opportunities for advancement or even getting time off often seem to depend on whether management favors you at the moment. Many employees find that raises only happen when they threaten to leave, which can create a frustrating and demotivating environment. One of the more concerning aspects is the tendency to blame the team for things beyond their control. For example, management insisted on continuing a certain style of content that the team had already determined wasn’t effective. Despite this, we were penalized for low performance during reviews for those very pieces of content, which felt unfair and demoralizing. The team often finds itself teaching management about marketing rather than receiving direction or creative ideas. This lack of leadership and guidance only adds to the feeling of being unsupported and undervalued. Additionally, there's a noticeable double standard when it comes to how the top models are treated. Despite not performing well, they are allowed to act like divas, arrive late, and leave early from shoots without repercussions. Meanwhile, the creative team bears the brunt of the backlash for any issues that arise, further contributing to a frustrating work environment. Unfortunately, the team is often treated like children, with a lack of respect and autonomy that can be demoralizing. It's not uncommon to see coworkers crying and quitting frequently, which speaks to the overall work atmosphere. Despite the team's repeated attempts to voice concerns and suggest improvements, there has been a noticeable lack of responsiveness from management, which has only added to the frustration. The job has also never felt secure. If the team performs well, it seems management believes we can be easily replaced because "anyone can do this" in their eyes. If content doesn’t perform, they suggest that new people could do a better job. The high turnover rate only exacerbates this feeling of instability, making it difficult to bond with the team when everyone is replaced every six months. Despite the company's "success", there seems to be a disconnect when it comes to recognizing and rewarding hard work. For instance, bonus structures, which could motivate and reward high performers, are dismissed as "unfair to the rest of the company," even though they are standard in many similar organizations. In one instance, a manager made a dismissive comment that even if the team performed well, it didn’t mean the owner would buy them a house, reflecting a lack of appreciation for employees' contributions. Moreover, despite witnessing the difficulty in filling roles and the increasing pay rates in our field, management is reluctant to offer fair market wages, further contributing to dissatisfaction and turnover. Additionally, there is a troubling culture of rewarding those who appear busy or report on others to management, often at the expense of those who are efficient and quickly complete their tasks. Those who are fast at their work are burdened with more tasks and an unrealistic baseline of output that is not sustainable, leading to burnout and frustration. Overall, the experience can be rewarding, but it requires navigating a complex and sometimes frustrating environment where support, recognition, respect, and job security are not always forthcoming.
