      Poor leadership, Terrible Culture

      Anonymous employee
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Good benefits - Good work/life balance

      Cons

      - Promotions and rewards are often based on favoritism rather than merit - Decisions about promotions and recognition are often influenced by office politics rather than employee contributions - Success within the company often depends more on self-promotion than on tangible achievements, sometimes at the expense of equally or more deserving employees - There are numerous leaders in the organization who have been brought in or advanced to roles that exceed their skills and qualifications, impacting overall effectiveness

Formerly great place to work shadowed by bad leadership

      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

compensation and benefits remote first culture

      Cons

lack of leadership and direction culture destroyed by Microsoft and layoff culture + lack of career growth

      Empowering, Innovative, and Developer-First Culture

      Sr. software engineer
      Former contractor
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Strong focus on developer tools and productivity Great work-life balance and flexible remote culture Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI (Copilot, GPT integration)

      Cons

career advancement path can be unclear in some departments

      Great company

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Wonderful and able to work remote. Very challenging though to actually get accepted here or hired. Very challenging interview process especially as an entry level. Many hiring processes depend heavily on location and the US is heavily oversaturated. It’s a great job if you can get hired, but chances are slim.

      Cons

Not many career opportunities because I work remote. Hard to make connections with other employees because I’ve never met a majority of them. They live in other countries sometimes.

Lack of Leadership, Strategy, Integrity and Authenticity

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      • Remote company • Superficial tech company benefits if those matter to you - swag, onsite trips, etc

      Cons

      • Leadership (CEO Thomas D.) models behavior that's questionable in character and openly says one value and behaviors oppositely • Lack of strong strategy, clarity of purpose and value of work • Constant mindset of "giving the least" - I was originally hired in one market and when I moved to another they wanted to CUT my pay by 15K for 'cost of living adjustment' • Extensive redundant, regressive, discouraging bureaucracy - direct from Microsoft • Destructive legacy mindset from "senior" members about tech workers - only developers have value and should be able on demand to recite any technical intricacy or detail when asked • Recognition of experience, skills or knowledge is rare and highly diminished - promotions take multiple years and when raises or no advancement is awarded no explanation is given

Toxic Work Environment with Zero Support

      Current employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Remote work option Access to some talented colleagues High visibility projects

      Cons

Management is unsympathetic and discriminatory No work-life balance No career growth or opportunities Rampant office politics Incompetent HR that ignores serious issues High turnover due to poor leadership

      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great benefits, good culture, great work/life balance.

      Cons

Few growth opportunities and internal resistance to it.

      1

Had a lot of promise, now is chasing the AI boom

      Marketing
      Current employee
      New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Great team members - Excellent benefits (up to 50% 401(k) match which is more than $10K per year if you fully max out) - Remote and global

      Cons

      - Leadership is constantly changing priorities - Microsoft is increasing their presence and changing GitHub's formerly start-up and people-centric culture - Limited career opportunities. If you get hired as a mid-level person, expect very limited promotion opportunities.

If you're in marketing, avoid avoid avoid

      Sr manager, marketing
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great benefits Great products Great people

      Cons

No direction Marketing is split between at least two organizations There's no CMO (and that's intentional) A lot of micromanaging Inept middle management Changing priorities Favoritism No growth opportunities (unless you want to grow in title alone with none of the accompanying skills that go with it)
