What is overtime like at JW Marriott?

      JW Marriott reviews

      Beyond chaotic

      Event management
      Former contractor
      Medan, North Sumatra
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The prestige of working for a JW hotel

      Cons

Unsupportive colleagues because everyone is busy saving themselves. Management is a mess. Team is severely undermanned and full of beyond exhausted people, it is impossible to avoid overtime, take leave, or even properly enjoy your days off. You will get no peace be it during or outside your work hours.

      Unfair scoring for intern

      Guest service agent intern
      Former intern
      Jakarta
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - they provide a meal (lunch/dinner) even for intern - some of the "superiors" are kind/understanding - several staff want to teach the interns - can do intern for 2 division (get 2 certificates)

      Cons

      - unfair scoring when it comes to the best trainee (my friend was late several times but they scored it perfect for punctuality, half time of our intern period she only helped with parking ticket but they scored high for most contributions for the hotel) - toxic environment (one duty manager treat you based on if they like you or not, and this is not objective) - they will consider you did a good work if you have longer overtime working hour, not by what you actually did for the guests and hotel

      Cons

Long hours and a lot of running

      No mercy on employees

      Sales and marketing coordinator
      Current employee
      Bengaluru
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Honestly, the only real advantage of working at JW is the brand name. Having it on your CV can open doors elsewhere and make your profile look stronger. That’s probably the main reason most people stick around as long as they do. It teaches you how to handle pressure, deal with unreasonable expectations, and work with difficult people

      Cons

Life at JW feels like a living hell. You’re pushed to work well past your regular hours with zero appreciation or bonus for the overtime. The director has no real grasp of how things actually work in the domain but still manages to take all the credit, riding on the brand name for personal gain. That kind of leadership sets the tone for everything that follows. The managers under them copy the same behavior, more interested in showing off than supporting their teams. There’s no sense of direction, no mentorship, and no genuine teamwork. People spend more time managing office politics than doing meaningful work. Hard work goes unnoticed, while flattery gets rewarded. Every decision feels like it’s made to protect someone’s image, not to move the company forward. Employees are drained, burned out, and stuck in a loop where nothing changes. You start your day already tired, knowing that effort won’t matter. The workplace culture kills motivation, and the environment feels more toxic each day. What should’ve been a place to learn and grow has turned into a constant fight just to stay sane.
